Cisco Wireless Access Point
Hey guys probably a stupid question but here it goes, lets say I have a network something simple a router a switch and a wireless access point, all cisco gear, nothing fancy, no wireless router just a standard cisco router with some WIC cards and Fa and such.

Now I know for this to work the switch will have to have PoE to power the access point so I can aviod having to run power to it, my question is will the access point work if it is connected to the switch and they rest of the network is set up and running fine?

Or am I incorrect in my thinking and I would have to have a wireless router in the mix for the access point to provide wireless conectivity?

You're fine with just adding an AP. In fact, I have a Netgear WG102 AP running on my home network and it's being powered with PoE from my 3560 layer 3 switch.

Thanks for the reply wasnt sure if the AP would work without a wireless router. This will help me boost the range of my network once I get it all switched over to cisco gear.

Depending on your Cisco router, you can add a wireless card to it.

I just did an install where they have no wireless router, just the regular router and cisco APs for their wireless. It will work fine.
