I had a virus this weekend. After I did a system recovery to get rid of it, my internet quit working. I have tried a lot of various things for it. The laptop came with wifi ability. It uses Atheros wireless network adapter. My router is a Belkin N wireless router. My desktop connects fine but the laptop won't connect no matter what. Even when the router says it's connected. I've also tried connecting it directly to the modem and that didn't work either. My ipconfig/all says this:

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista and 7.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

It says I'm connected but I still can't get online.

Sorry, I made the common mistake of seeing the APIPA (169.254.x.y) in your 1st ipconfig /all and missing the fact that it was statically assigned. Please make it dynamic.

To configure a dynamic IP address on your Windows Vista computer:

1. Click Start.
2. Select Network, then Network and Sharing Center, and click Manage network connections from the list of tasks.
3. Right click the connection of interest and click Properties.
4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) from the list and click the Properties button.
5. Select Obtain an IP address automatically.
6. Select Obtain DNS Server address automatically.
7. Click OK.
8. Click Close.

I just finished doing your directions. Still no internet. Do I need to restart the computer again? Also when I have the "connectivity doctor" run it says that a possible reason is that the ip address was not set properly (c-19)

I've tried wired connections and it still won't work. I downloaded the program and put it on the laptop. Here's the networks screen

Well, your wireless adapter is obviously working.

Have you removed ALL stored wireless network profiles and done a search for your network and tried to connect?

Did you do the stack repair Terry posted?

I did the stack repair that Terry posted and then I posted the results from that earlier. I didn't have any network profiles before this morning. I'll try to remove it and do the search.

I deleted all the saved networks and refreshed it to show all the network profiles in the area. Then I tried connecting to mine and it didn't work.

Please boot into Safe Mode with Networking, try to connect by both ethernet and wireless at the same time and show an ipconfig /all for that situation.
