xp wont install network card
Hi, can anyone help?

I reciently upgraded to windows 7, but cant run any of my older programs that i need for work (even in compatibility mode!), so i reinstalled xp, but now it wont accept the drivers from the motherboards disc or the website.. It installs these, but then you restart computer like it needs, and it brings up the prompt again.

It works fine on windows 7 though.

I tried using a PCI network adapter, but yet to the same avail.

The only way i can get xp to recognise a ethernet adapter is to install a usb to rj45 setup.

Any ideas anyone?

What version of XP has been installed back onto the machine? See 'Editions' on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP

Is it the original XP CD that came with the PC. If not it might not have the specific motherboard/systems and hardware drivers required for the PC/Laptop.

What model of PC/Manufacturer?

What model/manufacturer is the network card? Have you download drivers from the manufacturers websites rather than trying a CD.

In Control Panel --- System --- Hardware --- Device Manager under Network Adapters what is the state of the network card? Does it have a Red Cross or ! or ?

If the motherboard drivers are not loading then the problem may extend to other devices not working? Does the sound/graphics etc work ok?

I Installed Xp Professional with SP3, and is a genuine disc that i used last time. I built the PC, so it did not come with a disc/recovery CD.

I Downloaded the drivers for the network adapter from the manufacturers website, and installed, but yet still no luck!

The Motherboard is a ECS GS 7610 Ulrta with a Amd Duron Chip 3200, 200Gb Hdd, 2Gb Ram

In device manager it is showing as a ? in a yellow triangle

Sound is fine, graphics is fine, just the ethernet not working

I believe the ethernet to be the SIS 900 100/10

Everything else installs fine!

I asked at the so called "TECH Team" at PC world, but would seem like i was talking to a WW1 Concrete bunker!

Hope you can help

Have you tried the driver here? http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Pro...uID=48&LanID=0

If it doesn't work, extract the files from the zip folder and open the \sgl201-LAN\WINXP2K folder. Right click on the NETOEM.inf file and click Install.

Download the SIS 900 version 1.19 driver for XP at http://www.sis.com/download/

Unzip the drivers into a local directory like C:\SIS\

Reboot into Safe mode with Networking (press F8 at startup).

Uninstall the current SIS/LAN Card drivers.

Then in Control Panel choose to Add new Hardware device.

If you dont see SiS card in the list, chose an Intel Networking item from the list and browse to the XP .info file in the C:\SIS\ folder on your PC.

That should trigger the install list to show the SiS Networking adapter.

Install it then reboot the PC (into regular mode)

Fingers crossed it will work.

If you haven't already install the correct chipset drivers first, before other individual drivers. In this case I vote for trying Frank4d's suggestion before warrior19's because ...

This is my preferred order for finding drivers:

1. PC manufacturer's web site,
2. Motherboard manufacturer's web site,
3. Device manufacturer's web site,
4. A "drivers" site, such as DriverGuide,
5. Anywhere you can find one that might work,
6. Let Device Manager try to find one.

Whichever version of driver you opt for try the Safe Mode with Networking and uninstall the old drivers so this is a clean install.
