Question Strange Internet Connection Issue (read message for description)
Hi, just want to say thanks beforehand for any help you guys may be able to give me with this.

I'm having a strange internet connection problem. Just a basic outline of how my network is set up:

We have a series of about 4 routers connected within eachother around a spaced out camp in order to provide internet to about 12 guys.

At one end of the camp, there is a wireless router. I am able to connect to the wireless connection most of the time, but it kicks me off and disappears completely every now and then and goes down for about 30 seconds before showing back up as an available connection.

On the other end of the camp, I have an ethernet cable running about 40 meters into the area where I sleep.

Here's the weird thing: Roughly 50% of the time when I plug the ethernet cable in ( and always with wireless disabled ) I will actually connect. When I do connect, I will see the little

"Local Area Connection"
Connected
MARVELL YUKON 88E8071

icon in My Network Connections, as well as the

Internet Connection
Connected
Internet Connection

icon under "Internet Gateway".

The other percent of the time, I will plug the ethernet cable in and the Local Area Connected will almost immediately switch to "Connected", and the "Internet Connection" icon/display will not even show up at all. Although the icon says I am connected, I am not.

Weird things to note:
When I AM connected, if the ethernet cable gets accidentally pulled out, I plug it back in and the "Internet Connection" dissappears and I am unable to connect again. Unless...

Odd temp fix:

If I take my laptop over to the area where wireless is available ( once I get kicked off of the wired internet connection ) and stay connected for roughly 30 minutes, I can come back to the cable and disable wireless and re connect to the wire.

I have no idea why this happens this way.

Things to note:
My ethernet drivers are current
Windows XP Home edition
Extended network set up
Satellite Internet {Moderator made small edit to Note the Satellite Internet service for helpers}

Thanks again, if you need more info I'll be glad to give it.

Not sure what you mean. It sounds to me like the cable is getting yanked out w/o disengaging the clip. If so, then I suspect you have a damaged port or cable, which is giving intermittent service.
