Solved: Ever since router resetted itself, my internet is slow
Last Friday my linksys WRT54G router somehow reset itself to factory settings; when I turned on my computer and went to the 192.168.1.1 router website the SSID was reset to linksys, the security was unencrypted, etc. I encrypted it again, but ever since Friday my internet is at least half as slow as it was before. Pages take ages to load, I download at 20 kb when it usually is 160 kb, video sites like Youtube and Hulu don't stream or take ages to buffer, and I nothing even happens when I try to check my speed at Speakeasy. What's strange is that it doesn't seem like an isolated occurrence, some other people I know all had their WRT54Gs reset to factory settings last Friday. There's no firmware update from linksys, so I don't know why it suddenly reset itself. Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, I'd actually do a reset to defaults again, since you didn't really do a complete reset. Reconfigure and see if that helps. I"d be a bit suspicious of what you ended up with when it spontaneously reset.

Yeah, I already resetted the router through the reset button on the back. It was normal for about 10 minutes and then the internet started slowing down again.

I also updated the firmware from v8.0.2 to v8.0.7, it didn't help at all.

Do you have some P2P applications running?

No, neither my Limewire nor my Utorrent is active. The only programs active are Avast! 4 and Spybot, but they've never caused problems in the past.

Have you connected directly to the modem to see if this is an ISP/modem issue?

I did that, I believe it is now a problem with my modem or ISP. Thank you, I will make a new thread if the modem problem persists.

Sometimes just rebooting everything helps
turn off the pc
unplug the modem and router from the ac outlet
wat 30 seconds
plug in the modem...wait until the light show its done or wait about a minutes or so
plug in the router....wait about a minute or so
power up the pc and see what happens
