After connecting to Windows Live Messenger (MSN), my network is dropped & removed from the list of available networks, unplugging the router solves this problem. I have NETGEAR Advanced Cable Modem Gateway (Model No. CGD24G). Sometimes the wireless signal light will turn off, or remain on... either way the connection is dropped. A few times, the network has been dropped without connecting to messenger.

System Specs
Acer Aspire 6930
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32 - bit Operating System.
Currently using avast! Free Antivirus, Windows Firewall, & Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware.
Network adapter: Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN

Do you get the same problem if connected by ethernet?

Download from Acer's web site and install the latest driver for your wireless adapter.

Connected by ethernet, the problem does not occur.
There are no new wireless drivers for my OS.

Download from Acer's web site and install the latest driver for your wireless adapter anyhow, because that will also fix any driver corruption problem.

If that doesn't help the next step is to make sure you have the latest router firmware; then reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

The available list of drivers from Acer's web site only show drivers not contained in Windows 7. The wireless adapter drivers are up to date.
