Wireless crashes with local traffic
Okay first here's a little bit on my hardware setup:

Router: Belkin F5D8235-4 v2000 Latest Firmware

My laptop: Acer 5739g with the latest windows 7 and the latest drivers installed as well.

Roommates laptop: Same as mine but with windows vista(she never got the free upgrade lol)

Desktop: Custom built with the latest windows vista and the latest drivers installed as well.

All computers have wireless! Laptops have N and the desktop has G.

Now for my problem. At random after I attempt any sort of local network traffic (such as copying files across the network), my wireless for all the computers crashes without warning. This happened when I still had vista on my laptop too, however it did not happen with the old router that got fried. I have tried a couple of things to see if I could resolve the issue such as upgrading to the latest firmware and playing around with the settings(different radio channels etc). No matter what settings I use it seems to crash. I assigned static IP's for all the computers hoping it might fix the problem but I had no luck with that either.

Here's my wireless router settings:

http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/5...ssettings2.png

I have no problems with the internet and I can download large files without any problems this seems to be a local issue only, and it seems to happen more often when moving large amounts of data.
I'm pretty stumped about this one and I'm usually pretty good with computers I know I probably have one setting wrong thats causing all of this to happen.

Thank you so much for any help! It'll be nice to be able to copy/move files across the network without any crashes!

Edit: Ipconfig /all stuff for both computers(don't have access to my roommates laptop at the moment.):

If you did not do so after installing the latest Belkin firmware reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it.

Don't use "Auto" for the channel, as it can decide to change channels and, of course, cause all wireless connections to drop momentarily. Try channels 1, 6 and 11.

Do you detect any other wireless networks (that could be causing wireless interference)? Have a 2.4 GHz cordless phone?

Yeah I reset to factory default settings and then reconfigured it after the firmware update. I'll try setting the auto for the channel to 6 for now and see if that helps. No 2.4ghz cordless phones around. Unless my cellphone can disrupt the wireless signals?

Cell phones use completely different frequencies, so should be any problem unless something is really goofed up.

So far so good with the channel set at 6. I'm copying a total of 28.8 gb's of data which will take aprox. 12 hours and so far it has done almost a gb which it usually would of crashed by now. I think that may of been the problem, I had turned it to auto cause I had trouble connecting my laptop to the wireless network at first I was troubleshooting that. Thanks for all the help!

Assuming you meant 28.8 gigaBytes (not gigabits) and if I did the math right 12 hours transmission translates to 5.3 Mbps.

If you can connect the desktop by ethernet you can probably improve that by a factor of 4 or more. If you can also use dual channel (40 MHz) without running into interference from other networks you can probably improve by a factor of 10 or more.

Or connect the two computers by ethernet cable, or both by ethernet to the router, for such large data transfers.

Just trying to give you some alternative, which may not be convenient for your situation.

I'm hard pressed to believe any wireless connection will transfer data all that fast. I've tried it with an 802.11n connection at 270mbit (40mzh channel), and I was only able to get about 8mbytes/sec for the transfer. I can easily do 4-5 times that speed using a gigabit wired connection.

8mbytes/sec = 64 Mbps (m bits per second). In line with my estimate of 10 times 5.3 Mbps.

Right, I was thinking you were talking 5.3mbytes.

More weird stuff just popped up! I was having trouble again with the desktop randomly dropping to local and no internet. Then I looked at the list of routers I could connect too and their are two one is called "toasterswirelessinternet" and the 2nd one is called "toasterswirelessinternet 2"

My laptop shows only one. I think my desktop has something going on with it..

Download and run this Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, paste a screen shot of the Network screen here. Note that this application requires NET Framework to run. If you get an error about a missing function, download and install NET Framework.

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file. To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.
