Exclamation Problems using Netgear CGD24G Cable Gateway on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
I recently subscribed to my cable company's internet service and the guy who installed everything hooked a Netgear CGD24G Advanced Cable Modem Gateway to my Compaq Presario. Lately, I keep losing my connection and constantly have to reset my modem to get it to work. I tried installing the modem to my USB port, but Windows 7 doesn't recognize the driver, saying it is "not compatible with this platform". I also tried updating my network adapter but it is already up to date. I cannot do anything online because my connection keeps getting dropped. I'm thinking about calling the cable company and ask them to cancel my internet service. Can anybody help me find a USB driver or tell me what I can do to get this modem to work right?

Well, I'd forget about the USB and use the Ethernet, it'll be much more reliable.

Let's address the issues with the Ethernet first. I'm assuming this is a wired connection and not a wireless one? With the Ethernet in use, not the USB, please do this.


Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. It's best to run this test with a direct wired connection to eliminate any wireless issues from the results. It's useful many times to run this test several times, and we'd like to see each of the results. Post the results link from the top of the test display page for each test run here.

Note: You will have to enable PING (ICMP) request response either in your router (if you have one), or in your computer's firewall for direct modem connections. This is very important to get the most important part of the test to run.

Thumbs down This didn't work
First of all, that didn't work nor did it apply to my situation. I went to Netgear's website and one of the suggestions was to move the modem away from the computer and monitor to eliminate any interference. I moved it to the other side of my desk and reset the modem. Now everything works properly and I'm not losing connection.
