i have am asking this for some help on behalf of a friend. My friend has orange broadband and he has the router Linksys WRT54G2 but what keeps happening is that his connection just keeps on dropping out. He has been synced at 3054Mbps (Download) 984 (Upload). Hes a online gamer and he has the Xbox 360 but he always is getting connection drop outs on his end and people with an xbox 360 will know about the 4 green bar system, he currently is on red all the time (Red bar only when is turned on). The Xbox and the 2 laptops are connecting wireless. We have contacted Orange and their say its working fine but we know its not. we been on www.speedtest.net and these are the results 0.7(download) 0.2 (upload) Ping 222ms.

Please i hope you guys find away to help out my friend.

on one of the laptop do the following tests and repeat them when you get the drop out

{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

Then run the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

Thank you for your comment etaf but i have found the solution we called his network for a 3rd time and asked what is his Download set to. they replied on saying it was set to 12MB, i live basically on the same street connecting to the same exchange and in my area can only support 4.5MB Download. They also found that their were a lot of errors building up on the line so they reduced down to 5MB and it works grand. I couldn't run that program which you send me because it things its a virus

Well, the WiFi scanner is clearly not a virus, I've recommended that link 100's of times, and I run that program here.

i have used the xirrus tool on about 40 machines with Vista & windows 7 in the last few months and also recommend here, so between Johnwill, terrynet and myself probably 1000s of times now

I suspect your virus program is seeing some false positive, hence it would be very useful to know what you are running and what indicated it was a virus.
