Need to disable-enable Local Area Connection every time
Dear Guys:

I recently just got broadband internet. The problem is, whenever I shut down then restart the computer, I have to disable and enable the Local Area Connection in order for it to connect.

When I click on CHange Adaptor Settings, it shows a Local Area Connection with NVIDIA nFore Network Controller, and a Local Area Connection 2 with MArvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

In order to get the internet to connect, I have to disable the NVIDIA, not the Marvell Yukon.

I went and changed the signature, but it never changed! This is a different computer. Hang on and let me see if I can't change it again.

You need to watch your spelling and typos because this can delay helping you.

The NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller and the Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller are both wired adapters.

Go into the Device Manager and click the + in Network Adapters and advise what's listed in that heading.

Is this computer a desktop or a laptop?

Click "Report" and then request to have your thread moved to the Networking forum where JohnWill and TerryNet and Elvandil and some of the other knowledgeable people there can help you.

Do you know what chipset is in that Windows 7 computer? I'm guessing it's a NVIDIA nForce chipset.

If it's a factory brand one and not a custom built one, what's its brand name, model name, and model number?

I'm not sure how to know what the chipset is?

By the way, I should let you know, when I upgraded from Vista, I had Trend Micro wireless USB running. And for some reason, when I upgraded, it still worked, though I can't find it in my Control Panel programs. Perhaps it still is trying to run that?

Exactly what all is listed in Device Manager under Network Adapters? What, if any, warnings or errors are anywhere in Device Manager?

Please show the following for when you first boot and then again for after you have a network connection ...

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Note that there is a spot in the user profile to put your computer specifications, which allows you to put more detail than will fit in the three lines allowed for signatures. You'll then see the little computer icon at the top of each post that opens your computer specifications.

When i look at network adaptors in device manager, I only see the following:

Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Contoller
NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller

I don't see any difference between the two. Make sure you have the latest firmware for the router; then reset it to factory default settings and reconfigure it. Try these repairs ...

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Vista or 7.

Start, Programs\Accessories and right click on Command Prompt, select "Run as Administrator" to open a command prompt.

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log

Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults. netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log

Reboot the machine.

The repairs may do it, I see a default gateway listed of 0.0.0.0 and then the proper one. That's not normal...

I recall an NVideo / NIC card conflict from a few years ago. Did a quick search and found the following link. Granted it's not exactly the same h/w as your system, but it might give you some ideas of keywords to do some digging of your own. In th case outlined in the link, the issue was resolved by updating drivers.

I recall on my last Toshiba Notebook that if I went to the Toshiba site, they rarely updated their drivers. But, I was able to find updates for the video, LAN and other components by drilling into the OEM (i.e. Nvideo, Intel, Symtel, etc.) sites with the info available from the hardware devices listing in Windows.
