Exclamation Solved: wireless connection blocked by device manager
Whenever I try to use my wifi on my computer I get the following error on HP wireless assistant:
This device has been disabled in Windows Device Manager. To enable this device, use Windows Device Manager.

I have already gone to the device manager and enabled everything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

i have moved to networking forum,
would you post the following

make and model of pc
make and model of wireless router

b]------------------------------------------------------------------------[/b]
{Device Manager}
Post back the results in device manager
Start > control Panel {Vista set to classic view}> system > {Vista, device manager on left hand side} {XP hardware Tab, device manager button} >
windows 7
start > control panel> System and Security> Device Manager

network adaptors, click on the + > post back the devices listed there
are there any ! ? or X

post a screen shot of the device manager - network adapters

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here
------------------------------------------------------------------------

{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Then run the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

there is no wireless adapter in that device manager
Do you have any ? or ! any where else in device manager as I cant see all the information from that image
also click on view "show hidden devices"

Download and run belarc.com or siw http://www.gtopala.com/
These programs detect hardware on the PC- see if they find the wireless adapter

you could also try re-installing the wireless adapter driver - from the HP website - support and drivers
whats the exact model of the HP machine -

If you can't find any evidence of the adapter in Device Manager you can check in the BIOS (Setup) to see if it somehow got disabled in there, and check to make sure the adapter is not loose.

After checking on SIW, which did have and adapter listed I reinstalled the drivers from HP. It worked for a few seconds then the wireless adapter shut down.

It's sounding like an intermittent failure of the wireless adapter or of the portion of the motherboard to which it connects. With luck maybe it's just loose.

You should be able to find the adapter under one of the covers on the bottom of the laptop. With the battery removed, remove the adapter and then reinsert it carefully and firmly. Do this about 3 times to clean off any possible corrosion on the connections. To do this you will probably have to disconnect the antenna leads and then reconnect them.

Great! It seldom turns out to be that "simple," so it's really good to hear when it fixes the issue. You're welcome.
