Hello,

I just got a new router that is giving me a problem. The problem is on my vista laptop, the wireless wont connect to the internet but connects to the router. On the Network and sharing center panel it shows the computer icon connected to the router but then theres a X between the router icon and the internet world icon, all my other gadgets work like my wireless PS3 and my wireless Macbook.

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.

you dont have DHCP enabled on the wireless connection - but it is on the ethernet

I tried that all already and no luck, i put it to obtain an IP automatic and DNS , disconnected and reconnected. I went into the router and looked at the DHCP client list and listed the faulty laptop as 192.168.2.4 but still no internet connection..

try taking the wireless security off and see if connects

I turned off the WPS and firewall on my router, and turned off windows firewall and quit Peerblock

did you try turning OFF the wireless security
I would also suggest changing the wireless channel to 1

I just turned off the security and was able to connect and load my homepage, then turned back on security and now its not letting me online....im sure im using the right password to the router..

also remove all wireless profiles from the PC

you are using WPA2 on the router, did you use this before?, your adapter may not support WPA2

you are using WPA2 on the router, did you use this before?, your adapter may not support WPA2

try changing to WEP security - see if that works OK

Sorry for the delay, but not its just not that one PC, i have two pcs from HP that wont work

so my PS3 and my macbook have no problem connecting to the new router, but both the HPs do


heres the versions of the routers, the 1st router works but has bad signal now, both belkins

router #1 F5D7234-4 v5 with the highest firmware update
router #2 F7D2301 v1

both of the routers support WPA2

heres the HPs

#1 HP pavilion dv6812nr entertainment notebook
#2 HP pavilion dv9700

both of the computers support WPA2 since the first router is using WPA2

i have the old router plugged in right now so everything is connected, but when the new router is plugged in those two HPs can only connect to the new router but wont go online.

the reason im trying to use this new router is because the old router has nasty range and computers around the house lose connection all day.

I would remove the wireless profiles from both machines and then
take off the wireless security on the router and see if both PCs connect OK -
If they both connect and work fine
Then add back the wireless security and use a new password
then try and connect the two PCs again
switch everything off
switch on the router and allow to settle for a few minutes - then turn on the PCs and connect

If that does not work = post back an ipconfig /all from one of the pcs
