Solved: MiFi2200 Connection Porblem
I recently purchased a MiFi2200 from verizon. I followed the directions for installation on my desktop. My desktop sees the MiFi network but when I try to connect to it I receive the following error message:
"Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again." The MiFi2200 is about two feet away from my desktop. The laptop (which has no problem connecting) is about 20 feet away.

I am using a HP desktop, and a Linksys Wireless B network adapter.

My Epson wireless printer works without a problem on the network.

I have spent hours working with tech support (verizon) and their solution was to send a disk with the latest software (Access Manager). I loaded it but it was the same version as what was loaded on the MiFi2200.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to correct?

would you post an ipconfig /all from the working laptop and then another ipconfig /all from the desktop (you will need to copy the results to the laptop to post here, using a CDRW/R or Thumb flash drive, or USB drive)

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{ipconfig /all}
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here
We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results here
-> Start
-> (XP - enter the following in the RUN box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all
-> (Vista or Windows 7 - enter the following in the Search box)
cmd /k ipconfig /all

A black box will appear on the screen -
rightclick in the box
select all
enter
control key + C key - to copy

then reply here and
control key + V to paste

Two feet is pretty close. Try about 5 feet.

What wireless mode is the MiFi2200 using? Obviously it needs to include 'B' for a 'B' adapter to connect.

are you able to answers terrynet question
Quote:

would you post back xirrus - see below
do you have a firewall on the PC - if so what type - norton, mcafee etc

------------------------------------------------------------------------
{run Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector} Download and install
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to copy the program across to the faulty PC

http://www.xirrus.com/library/wifitools.php
Then run the program
if you get an error - You need NET Framework installed for the WiFi Inspector to function.

post a screen shot of the program running - if there are a lot of networks showing can you click on "networks" top lefthand area - so we can see all the network information, and also post which network "Adapter Name" (1st column) is yours on the list

To post a screen shot of the active window, hold the Alt key and press the PrtScn key. Open the Windows PAINT application and Paste the screen shot. You can then use PAINT to trim to suit, and save it as a JPG format file.
To upload it to the forum, open the full reply window and use the Manage Attachments button to upload it here.

window pops open
you can then browse you PC for the file and upload here as an attachment

Well, the adapter can see the HotSpot - so thats a great start
On your
Now you have WEP enabled - when you try to connect does the PC ask for the Key ?
Remove the wireless profiles (see below) from the PC and reconnect - you should be asked for the WEP key - re-enter the KEY , and are you sure you are using the correct code
if that still does not work
try taking WEP off the mifi2200, so theres is no wireless security and see if you can connect

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wireless Profiles
http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networki...ofile-t109.htm
- Vista/Windows7:
http://www.tp-link.com/support/showfaq.asp?id=214
- delete the wireless profiles
Start> control Panel> classic view> network and sharing center> manage wireless networks

Delete the profiles
you will then have to enter the wireless security key for any networks you connect to
--

Wireless Profiles
http://mgmcc.forumotion.net/networki...ofile-t109.htm
- XP
http://www.tp-link.com/support/showfaq.asp?id=186
- delete the preferred networks
start> control panel> network connections> right click on the wireless connection> listed wireless networks tab in the preferred network list click on each one and - remove button

you will then have to enter the wireless security key for any networks you connect to

Followed your directions and still receive the message "Windowsw is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try again." It never asks for a security key. P.S. I have loaded and unloaded software for both the Mifi2200 nad the Wireless B adapter several times.

You were right the first time, etaf; WEP encryption.

What operating system? If XP what wireless utility are you using, and are you sure no other one is running?

You mean any other ideas, right? Personally I don't work very hard on additional ideas until getting confirmation that my suggestions have been tried (or why they weren't) and getting answers to my questions.
