Constantly dropping connection
I am running VISTA Home Pro

Earthlink Modem : Broadxent DSL Modem :: 8012 - G1

LinkSys Router : WRT320N

I am constantly getting interrupts of very short duration.

I have had adjustments and replacements by Earthlink and LinkSys to no avail

LinkSys changed MRU and channels and things ( updated firmware ) - no change ... Earthlink sent me 4 different modems

I even removed my last installed software

I tried that Xirrus Wifi Inspector - but it showed me ( and continues to show me ) nothing.

Does anybody have any ideas ?

Thanks in advance,

Frank

An operating system with a split personality?

How frequent are these interrupts? Please confirm that they are the same whether your computer is connected directly to the 8012 - G1 or through the Linksys router.

Please show for your Vista connected directly to the 8012 - G1.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista or 7 type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

The disconnects are between 24 to 48 hours on a direct connection to the modem.

The disconnects on the Router are as often as less than hourly to as long as 8 hours.

Note that the lease time for the IP is 24 hours. Normally the router and computer "shake hands" and renew the lease half way through. If this is disrupted the computer would lose connection after 24 hours and may or may not get a new one. I recall that this happened to one person who mistakenly configured his firewall to block the port used by the router's Dhcp server to begin the lease renew process. This is a long shot, but if the lease time assigned by the Linksys is very short it's worth considering.

I don't have anywhere near a complete list of the troubles that Network Magic or TeaTimer can cause but I trust neither; I would uninstall both to see if one or both are involved in this issue.
