One website refuses to load.. & other strange goings on!
Ok firstly let me introduce myself. Im 28 and have an IT background. Im not a big forum fan and i usually sort most problems out with a quick google and an AVG scan. This, however has got me stumped.

Im trying to connect to www.rovertech.net, and i get a timeout. I also get a 'connection reset from server' when i try to connect to update.microsoft.com, something i have only just found out today.

The website works through a proxy. It also works through my PDA.

I have AVG installed and free Comodo Firewall. Im running XP SP2, Newest version of Firefox. Windows Firewall is off.

Computer is clean and virus free. I connect to the internet through an O2 ADSL connection, through wireless, through an O2 Wireless Box 2 router.

Some information:

I have no idea why i cant connect to this website. I have also soft and hard resetted my router..

Top suspect would be a firewall on the system. You are getting name resolution, that's the correct IP address. Obviously, I can ping the site fine.

Let's try this.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

TRACERT rovertech.net

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Well, that rovertech site is a forum; maybe it's not a big fan of you.

Why are you using an out of date XP? First thing to do is get SP3 and all subsequent critical Windows updates. Then, if the problem persists ...

Try with an ethernet connection. If you have separate modem and router try with a connection directly to the modem.

Try with Comodo disabled or uninstalled.

At the moment, for some reason i cant download updates. I get a server reset message on the website and nothing downloads through windows. This is why i need it sorting.

Traceroute seeemed to struggle. Same result with all firewall or virus software disabled.

I also know the owner of the site well (im a mod) and my ip is not blocked.

Yep, looks like your ISP has some routing issues. You have resolved the address correctly and you start down the path to connect and it dies a few hops in. For your reference, here's my trace to the same site. You'll notice that is slides right in without a hitch.

You may be right, when I had Comcast as an ISP, it took me weeks to get a similar issue resolved. They kept saying it wasn't their issue, and I kept saying it was. I think they got tired of me calling.
