NetGear WNDR3700 Issue W/ Atheros AR5700
I was just replaced a Linksys WRT54G Wireless router with a new NETGEAR WNDR3700 Wireless router. I successfully installed 2 Xboxes, Wireless HP printer and a newer hp laptop. All of these of devices including the laptop that isn’t working were connecting fine using WPA2 TKIP on the old router. I went to hook up the last laptop today and have been only able to do unsecured public network that does not allow Internet access. I had read an early post that apparently the poster was able to resolve his/her issue by upgrading drivers.
The system is a HP Laptop is running Vista Ultimate and the network adapter is Atheros AR5007 with 7.3.201.25 Dated 5/2007. I have upgrade to the new 2008 version of the driver and that did not help. I reinstalled the original 2007 driver fresh to rule out a driver corruption issue. I have changed the 2.4 GHz channel to various channels and it is currently set on 11. I can attempt to access other networks in my neighborhood and I get prompted to enter credentials correctly. When I try to set up the network connection it prompts me with a caution screen to press the activation button on the router or by pass and manually enter to security type and pass phrase. If I select either one it setups an unidentified network with local access only. The router is configured correctly by the fact all of the other devices are connecting. I’ve reset both the device and router a few times. And also able to connect to Internet with security removed.
I’ve include the ipconfig screen shot and a Xirrus screen shots as well.

Well, that appears to have a connection to the router. Are you sure a firewall isn't blocking the wireless connection?

Try some pings as well with this wireless connection.

Try these simple tests.

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD (COMMAND for W98/WME) to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands one at a time, followed by the Enter key:

NOTE: For the items below in red surrounded with < >, see comments below for the actual information content, they are value substitutions from the previous IPCONFIG command output! Do NOT type <computer_IP_address> into the command, that won't work. Also, the < and > in the text is to identify the parameters, they are also NOT used in the actual commands.

Do NOT include the <> either, they're just to identify the values for substitution.

IPCONFIG /ALL

PING <computer_IP_address>

PING <default_gateway_address>

PING <dns_servers>

PING 74.125.45.100

PING yahoo.com

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

<computer_IP_address> - The IP Address of your computer, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above. (For Vista/Win7, the IPv4 Address)

<default_gateway_address> - The IP address of the Default Gateway, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

<dns_servers> - The IP address of the first (or only) address for DNS Servers, obtained from the IPCONFIG command above.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Sorry for the delay been buried at work. I will post those images shortly but i did try the firewall issues before but did not include it in my original post. Also not if i turn off the security at the router it can access the INTERNET fine. I know it obtains an ip from DHCp which i suspect is a broadcast but when it directly tries to engage the gateway it is lost. I will post your requested screen shots shortly.

Thank you for the assistance.

Are you talking about wireless encryption? Since you're connected in that screen shot, I can't imagine this being an encryption issue.
