Can view wireless network but laptop won't connect
I'm going to try to include as much info as I can, but please bare with me as I'm struggling with all of this and am utterly frustrated after weeks of trying to figure out what's going on. Basically I have a Gateway laptop it's about 3 yrs old, has had some issues in the past and is now operating on a bootleg copies of Windows tablet XP. I have been connecting to the wireless router that is set up in our house, but there were some connectivity issues recently and my mother reinstalled it and set up the network all over again. Now I cannot connect with my laptop. The network will show up as available to connect and when I click on it, it asks for the WEP key, which my mother set and I type it in and nothing happens. It doesn't give me an error message that I typed in the wrong key. The box simply goes away and I stay unconnected. Nothing on my laptop was changed in anyway from when it was connecting to when it wasn't. There is another Newer Dell Laptop in the house and that can connect to the wireless network and work without issue. I'm at a total loss as to what I should do and its becoming quite a sore topic in our house. Please Help if you can. The router is a belkin router if that helps at all.
