Can Ping, but cannot see websites
I have tried every solution out there. What happened is that I had a trojan that redirected my google queries. superantispyware found the trojan, deleted it, but now I cannot connect to the internet.

I have windows xp, have checked that IP address is obtained automatically, all services are running that should be running, and have used winsockxpfix.

Here is my netstat and ipconfig. any help would be appreciated before I either kill myself or re-install

Open Internet Explorer. Click Tools > Internet Options > Connections > Lan settings > Proxy server> uncheck all boxes.

Also select No proxy in Firefox if you have it.

Thanks...tried that solution. But the lan settings were all unchecked already.

I've also checked that the internet connection is working....as I've got a netbook hooked up to this same router as well.

TCP/IP stack repair options for use with Windows XP with SP2/SP3.

Start, Run, CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following commands, each followed by the Enter key:

Note: Type only the text in bold for the following commands.

Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log

Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog

Reboot the machine.

Hi John,

Thanks for replying to my problem. I have tried that solution above a number of times...but it hasn't worked. I will try it again though when I get back from work.

I've gone through all your replies on this topic (as others have the same problem) and tried your solution. This problem is a pesky one though.

Any further suggestions would be most appreciated. I am holding off on the complete reinstall for now...hoping...hoping.

Can you connect to the Internet in Safe Mode with Networking?

If not, use a working computer and a USB flash drive to transfer the following program to the faulty one.

Please click HERE to download and install HijackThis.

Run it and select Do a system scan and save a logfile from the Main Menu.

The log will be saved in Notepad. Copy and paste the log in your next post.

IMPORTANT: Do not fix anything

To try a different dns, I went to the internet protocol (TCPIP) Properties window and used "use the following dns server addresses". I put in the 4.2.2.2 and rebooted, but it didn't work. However, the 4.2.2.2 was not saved....and it was defaulted back to "obtain dns server address automatically".

I hope I entered this in the right place. I also tried putting the 4.2.2.2 as the primary dns and an alternate dns from opendns dns server of 208.67.220.220, but that didn't work either....and it again was set to "obtain dns server address auotmatically".

Try using Google Public DNS.

Or, OpenDNS.

Yes...I had tried the opendns dns addresses as in the post above. Could not get through to internet after reboot. noticed that the system had reverted back to "automatically assign dns" after reboot.

Any additional help is greatly appreciated.
