Internet running very slow and very high ping.
Hello,

Im having issues with my Emachine E640.

When browsing websites they are taking an age to load. I then decided to ping google.com and the following results came back


C:\Windows\system32>ping google.com

Pinging google.com with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from: bytes=32 time=74ms TTL=54
Reply from : bytes=32 time=572ms TTL=54
Reply from : bytes=32 time=1121ms TTL=54
Reply from : bytes=32 time=1543ms TTL=54

These differ dramatically from 30 to around 3000.

I have done the following actions without any change,

Reinstalled the drivers, ipconfig/release / renew etc...


But to no avail so if anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

A little more info
Im using Windows 7 x64 , Wireless internet , Atheros AR5B93 Wireless network adapter.

Please help!

With a test such as Speedtest.net what do you get for

a. your wireless connection?

b. an ethernet connection to your router?

c. a connection direct to your modem if it is a separate unit?

For your service what should you be getting?

0.15mbps dl 0.1 upload with a 1400 ping.

Ethernet around 30MPBS download, 2upload 14 ping.

C; It's fibre optic and so there is a modem and router however you cannot connect straight to the modem.

Clearly the problem is with wireless only. Make sure you have the latest wireless driver; if the adapter is integrated the driver should be from your PC manufacturer's web site.

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector.

Any other networks showing, especially others with "green" signal strength?

Any 2.4 GHz wireless devices such as cordless phone or baby monitor that could be interfering?

Any other computers using the same wireless network? If so, are they experiencing the same problem?

One other, but it's orange.

No baby monitors etc..

About 3 other laptops and 2 computers, but non of them are experiencing any issues.

I think all that adds up to a defective wireless adapter. Maybe the contacts are corroded. If you can access it remove it and reinsert it carefully and firmly 3 or 4 times.

It;s a brand new laptop, im going on the assumption it's integrated so i don't think that's possible?

To clarify i mean possible to remove.

Many laptops have a cover on the bottom that can be removed with one or two screws that gives access to the adapter. Others have the adapter hidden under the keyboard or other inaccessible place.

With a new laptop you may want to just contact the manufacturer or retailer about their warranty coverage. Unless I misunderstood something I can see no way the problem is not the adapter.

In summary: You (your new laptop) have good networking with ethernet. Other computers are using the wireless network successfully. There appears to be no wireless interference. You have the latest wireless driver. You get ridiculously lousy networking with Wi-Fi.

Hmm, i've had it normal for around an hour but it went back up after the laptop went to sleep.

I wonder if it's any settings, any advice would be appreciated.

And to terrynet, a great thanks for all your help.

Settings? Good question.

Control Panel - Power Options - for whatever plan you are using Change plan settings - Change advanced power setting - Wireless Adapter Settings - Power Saving Mode - for On battery and for Plugged in if either is not at Maximum Performance change to that and see if it makes a difference.

Already had them, however it seems be ok again now.

i think it's the drivers after a while of searching the web.

But this problem will most likely return! however thank you for your help! Much appreciated.

"Driver" went onto my suspect list when I read the thread title. But in post # 4 and your post # 5 I thought we had taken care of that possibility?
