Hi all,
New to the forum. I am looking to purchase NAS to access all files via network and outside network. I also have two 2TB external hard drives (Fantom GreenDrives) which I would like to connet to the NAS via USB or eSATA to expend the NAS storgae capacity. I guess my question is this possible? to connect two external HD to NAS? I noticed that NAS (most of them) has at least one USB port on the back but I coulnd not find out if the NAS would recognize the drive.

Also, if you have any reommendation which NAS should I get to utilize this set up it would be greatly appriciated.

right now I am using three PC (XP, Vista and Win7) but I am looking to upgrade to Mac soon so I will have mix OS platform.

Most NAS servers will recognize a USB hard drive, but you should check the specs of the NAS server your looking to purchase before actually buying. As to which NAS server, that will depend on your needs and how much you want to spend. Be sure any NAS server you get will support both Windows and Mac.

Thanks for reply and post. I was looking to spend no more than $400. My use is to store / share, Docs, pics, video files.
If the NAS has only one USB port, could I plug in the USB hub and then plug in the two external hadrdrives? Would that work??

Theoretically, yes, but you should check the specs for the NAS you want to purchase. Most manufacturers provide the user manuals on their websites, so you might want to download and read the user manual of the NAS server before buying it. Then you'll know just what it can and can't do.
