What make and model camera are you using ?

You will need to use your cameras spot meter and a tri-pod will be an advantage.
It takes a bit of practice and will give you a chance to play with some of the advanced settings in your camera. You might need to turn off auto focus and manually set your focus to infinite. Lots of practice and you will get there.

Where is buck when you need him ?

I took this one last November with my 300mm. Handheld shot it was. Then I converted it to greyscale because it looked better that way.

fogged in... no moon or stars for the last few days...

Good advice from xgerryx

When I try to shoot the moon, I use a tripod and the self timer on my camera... spot meter on the moon itself...shutter speed 1/125 or one click higher... takes some experimentation, is that a word, but is fun

here's one I took...

Amazed me as well considering I didn't have my anti-shakey ( IS ) lens then.

Yes I do but remember that one was hand held so it won't help to do it anymore without making it worse. I have been waiting for a clear night and full moon since I got that shot but it hasn't come yet. It will and I'll be ready to go out of town with my tripod. I took the pic from my balcony in town so the lights don't help either. You gotta get out of town where it's dark.

Buck I learned something very valuable with your example. Adobe's ability to sharpen is a pile better than Corel PSP X that I have been using. I also have Photoshop CS (8) and have been playing with it today. I posted a few pics in my own thread of shots that I took today. I have been staying away from Photoshop as it's quite a bit more complex but I'm thinking I have to do some serious learning. Thanks for the pointer.
