howdy bygum

the lens I am using is a first generation 80-400 vr and performs very poorly at 5.6.. my camera also starts to get noisier than I care to deal with much above iso 400

are all your picture that you have been posting with this lens? i wish i could afford a long lens. all i have is that cheap Tamron 70-300MM. and to get good shot with it. the weather has to be good. with lots of sunshine. Nikon fixed and are sending back my 55-200mm VR its a better glass then the Tamron. just a shorter range

Howdy Wilson

I use that lens a fair amount and while it is decent it suffers from the same thing as your 70-300... the better the light the better it performs. The vr is a saviour for that lens
