We are having a spell of awful weather - gales, floods, frost and snow is forecas for tomorrowt! The men have been to see to the branches which came down from the trees and so at least we know they are safe now. Everything is sopping wet and so there are no photo's this post except for one of the 4 little carnations I salvaged from under the hedge! Tiny they may be but have a perfume which fills the room.

The winter flowering shrubs have been staked yet again and hopefully will survive the battering - fingers crossed.

Take care everyone..........kind regards as ever.........Margaret

Thank you for your nice remarks and welcome to the thread. I use a small Kodak digital camera myself as I am not very good with those that have lots of functions - my husband has one like that so I leave difficult shots to hime!

It is snowing here and looks as though it will be like this for Christmas so I am hoping to be able to take some photo's of my garden covered in snow and then I shall post them here.
Meanwhile I want to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a truly Peaceful New year.

Best wishes from ........Margaret

Thats nice and a great idea of taking a photo of a snowy garden, maybe ill do that myself, altough my garden has nothing, but grass and mudd. It is snowing in my area aswell, you know i couldnt open my car door at first, it was stuck, the windows were icy and so cold.

Anyway, if i can ill post my pictures of not just a snowy garden and a snowy area, but ill post them in a new thread, ill inform you of it, meanwhile could you add me as a user friend on this forum.

We have had a lot of snow for the past week or so and I kept putting off taking any photos thinking it would soon stop.....instead it is getting worse! We did manage to take a couple of shots today though and so I am posting a couple of them.

The stick in the right hand corner of one is in fact our car ariel....no sign of it at all now! Likewise the shrubs opposite the sitting room window have disappeared from view now and it is only an hour ago we took the photos!

Perhaps it was just as well we had to have the trees seen to after the gales did the damage a month ago as at least we shouldn't have any branches breaking off now - in fact the trees look quite beautiful although the birds don't seem to thinks so! They are also a bit miffed that their feeders are running low in seed and their water dishes are frozen too.......we keep swopping the water bowls over early in the morning and late afternoon but by morning they are frozen solid and I must confess we are not up too early these bitterly cold mornings!

I tried to protect some Hellebores but the weight of the snow put paid to that effort and now they must take their chances I'm afraid - just like the Fatsia!

That is about it for now except to wish you all A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR!

regards..........Margaret

Usually by now I have a garden full of snowdrops, aconites, crocus etc., but this year there is little to see at the moment. I have shifted sacks full of rubbish - most blown down in the gales and then covered in snow - and also buckets of stones which were washed down from the bank in the storms. The sun came out for a while today and suddenly a few of my crocus appeared - the ones I gather the safron from (no hope of that this year) and a single snowdrop!!!! Still this makes me hope that in a week or so many more will push up their flowers.

I thought this global warming they have kept on about (and introduced plenty of taxes for it too) was supposed to make our winters warm and we were told to plant drought resistant plants!!!! I am glad I as old enough to remember when we were told (again by the so called expert scientists) that another ice age was coming......I was very young at the time and it scared the life out of me........ I no longer believe anyone can change what mother nature intends to do and the best thing is to go with the flow!

Glad you liked the thread Sandy and hope you visit again.

I hope you are all enjoying your own gardens - kind regards as ever...........Margaret

Hello Bob - Yes Yvonne is correct it is a cyclamen - is usually has dark green veined leaves but has been hidden under the snow for so long it has been blanched! It is a scented variety with pale pink flowers - I don't know it's correct name as I bought it at the local school plant sale!

With a little luck if the weather holds I have quite a few crocus, dwarf iris and hyacinths about to come into bloom so the next post should be a little more colourful!

Kind regards as ever..........Margaret
