I have finally been able to spent a few days in the garden without getting drenched with rain or blown off my feet. We used to call this month 'Flaming June' because the sunshine brought out all the roses........a favourite in all English gardens......but instead the weather put a stop to that and they are only just beginning to flower now. I have a new climbing rose and it has it's first bloom.....only trouble is the wind has blown away the label and I can't remember the name of it (old age I'm afraid) but I am posting it just the same and hope someone will let me know what it is called!

I have started training a ceanothus along the side wall of the house as not only do you get the flowers it is evergreen all the winter too and is far easier to keep under control than roses or wisteria and it doesn't seem to get pests or diseases either.

Osteospermums should only last the summer in our part of the world but I have one which is now flowering for the third year running and is a mass of white flowers - none of the other colours survived but I am trying a new purple coloured variety which I hope will do just as well and have put it near the other one to enjoy the same conditions.

To go with my shocking pink Nicotiana I bought the unknown rose and they both have a superb perfume in the evening - all we want now are warm summer evening to enjoy it!

Kind regards to everyone .......Margaret

July is a lovely month in the garden and despite the wind and rain in recent days there has been enough sunshine to bring the dahlias, sweet peas and agapathus into bloom.

I have had two of our garden squatters getting more daring - see the attached photos!!!!

I hope you are all enjoying the summer evenings and making the most of your gardens

regards to everyone......Margaret

August already and it has come in with hot, sunny weather and the plants are responding to it. I love this time of year as my garden is a lovely mess.......hydrangeas, roses, sweet peas, dahlias, hostas, agapanthus just to name a few. I only have a small garden now but still can't give up having most of my favourite flowers around me - instead of in large numbers as before just one or two of each and they seem to be more precious than the big clumps I used to have. In order to make room for them all they have to mix and mingle - and if they get too fussy they go to live in my niece's garden round the corner!

I was delighted with the comment from wulawula - I never thought I would get to be called 'cool' - wait till the kids find out that this old lady is not past it after all!

I have posted another photo of my Agapanthus as Yvonne noticed in the last one that it had a lot of buds to come and now all 5 flowers are in bloom and stealing the limelight! I am also posting one which shows the champagne corks (from family celebrations) which I put on top of the sticks/canes I use to avoid them sticking in someone's eye when they bend down to have a sniff! One little girl dragged her Mummy along 'to see the corks growing in the lady's garden' - this, like wulawula's comment brought warmth and a new dimension into my gardening for which I am deeply grateful.

I hope you are all enjoying this lovely month of the year and making the most of any outdoor space you have -

kind regards to everyone........Margaret

We haven't had a very good summer this year and for the past week it has been windy with heavy showers but in the few bright sunny spells my clematis have once again suprised me by having gorgeous flowers and withstanding anything that mother nature cares to throw at them!

August is the time for Dragonflies here and we had one hatch and dry it's wings on one bloom and at the same time a white butterfly was doing the same thing.......I thought you might like to see them.

Kind regards to everyone......Margaret
