Hi,

I would like to speak English with people whose first language is English, because I can improve my understanding ability + speaking ability using that way. Is there is any free and SAFE web site for this purpose? Please help.

I don't know of a site that would teach you any better, than getting involved in conversations here at TSG. I've seen a number of your posts and you sound pretty darn fluent to me...

Not sure about a free site... its something that would take time and I would not see anyone teaching for free

Thanks all for the responses. Actually I am having an issue, that is I can understand English whatever our people talk, but When a foreigner talks, I feel that is too fast. So Some times, I need more time to understand what they said. No matter with our local people, because we are used to the style. To get rid of that problem I mentioned above, I watch lots of English movies and listen to English songs carefully, so I can understand them. Using this method, I improved a lot.

Anyway It is happy to hear that my English is good! I am so glad about that, because I was in a doubt .

Unfortunately the English dictionary of mine(Located inside the Brain) is not enough . Luckily, I am having a dictionary programmed by a local software engineer ...

Well, we can only tell your written English and that is fine.

I can see what you mean by "speaking" since I had the same problem as you when I was in your area (a bit North). Always took me a while to grasp "the melody". Now that is justice

Watching movies is a good way, I'd think. If you want to "ape" the accent (British or American), you might record certain speech passages from the movie(s)and then record your own voice efforts in copying them and compare.

This one will also show you how you can add to the comedy circuit (click the link in it).

If it's any consolation, Yanks place me as almost British (but not quite) and Brits as almost American (but not quite) and I've heard them self explain their conundrum at placing me being due to my probable Australian, New Zealand or S. African (heck, even Rhodesian) origins. All of which couldn't be further apart.

sepala i understand... at least for me.... I naturally speak a little fast (I'm british) and living in the US I had to tone down the speed so the americans can understand better.

I have been also ask if I was in India... I think the person thought since it's a call center they called I was located there... We are one of a few companies that are on home turf... haha.

I'm planning a trip to India and Nepal, and possibly Thailand at the end of October (from the UK). I could always take in Sri Lanka and offer intensive spoken English practice - at the very reasonable cost of accommodation at the nearest 5 Star hotel

As others have said, doesn't seem much wrong with your English - which is more than can be said for the Sri Lankan cricket team currently unfortunately.
