Unhappy THE SILVER BULLET's FINAL RIDE...

Virgil C. Briggs, Sr., Deposit, passed away Friday, December 14, 2007, at his home. He was born July 14 to John E. and Bertha Briggs on the family farm. He was predeceased by his first wife, Rosa Zandt Briggs; and two brothers, John, Jr. and Berkeley. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Nancy; children, Anna and George Manzi, Jennifer and Joel Cohen, Bill and Sabina Travis, Karen and Bill Capel, Denise and George Spray, and Virgil, Jr. and Kjersti Briggs; 12 grandchildren; brothers, Dewey, Alden, Edwin; and sister, Vera; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was a fifth generation Briggs to own and operate the farm on which he lived. He attended Alfred State until he enlisted in the Army in 1950. He was a member of the Deposit Masonic Lodge.
He loved his family, the farm, a good laugh, giving advice, and living life according to his own rules.
He will be truly missed.

Hiya Jim, Lisa! Beautiful tribute to Virgil B, and also the Rooney Fest.

I usually sell some 50-50 raffle tickets at the Pig Roast and was at the ticket thing during the day.... Looking through the Webshots I see some faces I know a bit.

First year we have live music....and the drummer wins the 50/50 raffle...lucky music!

Those are some great Webshots albums you have- I never got around to adding any pics.

Beautiful days we had- I only came up for Saturday as my brother Rich was visiting- took him up there and had a blast.

He'd never been to a Fest- just not the type of guy, but he knew a lot of people from school in Deee-posit.

There are very few things around the Net that refer to our Rooney Fest- but I have some back on Post#12 or and music at Post#20.
Was it you that I was telling about the streaming audio site that had the old live Rooney from years ago online? They eventually changed that content, and I didn't know, it's whatever you find but they always
have something you'll like.

It's quite a coincidence I posted today, same as your pictures of Virgil Briggs... just wandering through places here at TechGuy I haven't checked often- thanks again for being here, and keep the pics coming, it's great to see friends especially now with the snow and all- man does that mountain look wonderful!

The Pig this year was absolutely fantastic. I will see if I can get some of the gang to look at the thread, expect anything.... well, Happy New Year! to you and yours!

I will stop over and say Hi at the 2008 events- if we bring a laptop or two, we can show lots of people the
posts here! See my Profile> you'll see my pic there. Happy Happy! Bill

old roonier still partying on the hill
Hello Rooney people. I went to 10 Roonies and was on the security teem for most of them. The party lives on but now it is a picknic. It's more relaxed now but the music is still there. Dave is now putting out cd's of Rooney shows. I have hundrededs of pics of old Rooneys that I have no idea of how to put them out there. I will l not print the topless or bottomlless or both. My friend was an amatoure phitagrapher at the time and did't drink, so he would just take pictures. I remember the silver bulit very well. My friends and I would go up there one week early to mow down and rope off our site. I have soo many stories about the Rooney. The luckeydogs pics were great and I see alot of people I know. I'm the one that used to walk his stuffed aligator on the hill. Even the last pig roast.
I thought that I had lost him but after 3 years Dave B. told me that he had saved it in the old soundstage. After duct tapping the mice holes he was good to go.
Well if anyone sees this, let me know.

I do recognize you
I do recognize you from your picture! I will be sure to say hello to you at the next pig roast. If I can get a cheep scanner I will post some of my pictures. You might know me as Darrel. Bud always called my friend and I Darrel and Darrel. Like I said I have hundreds of old Rooney photoes that I would like to share. I made two videos, one my ex has and one is only about 2 min. long. It starts on Thursday afternoon looking from on top of the hill. The next shot is on Monday morning with the same shot on top of the hill. You know how that goes.

Hey Darrel and Darel-Larry....

I sure do know you both- what times we've had up on that hill!

If you guys post a lot of pictures, I suggest using Webshots as a place to post them, and put just the links to them here like Jim did.

Post some of the best here, that's fine to do.

Pics from a digital camera could be uploaded with no scanning, but yes for older actual phots on paper you'd have to scan them onto the computer.

Dave will have to start a website one of these days, maybe.

I didn't know he was making CDs - sounds good so I will see about getting some.

The wife and I had to miss the dinner last week, I don't know if you go to it down at the River Run place?

Maybe we can get to the early get together in the spring, missed that one last year, too.

If you look back through my posts here there are some links to places that have older Rooney tunes you can download, they are from quite a ways back but a riot to hear.

Here's the stuff from Post#20

Roonyfest....
That was a long, long time ago. I was at the first & second ones ('76 & '77), but then we moved away from Deposit. I was 14 years old and would have been hangin' out there with the Holland brothers and/or Dave Sheaffer (sp?). I lived on Wheeler St. so we just walked up there from the old power station location across the creek from DHS. The first year it was something like $10.00 for the whole weekend... beer included! I still have the T-shirt from the first one! I seem to recall going back to one in 1980ish but can't say for sure... go figure. So are there any Depositonians on this forum from that era? Bill

Hi Billybatz,

I am!

There are some very "close to Depositoniains" here, but I am the only "real" actual native of the village as far as I know. Makes no difference, once you've been a Rooneyer....and anyone is welcome to post if they have been to or know of the RooneyFest.

TechSupportGuy forums are more than just a computer tech free help site, take a look around the various forums while you are here and enjoy. Maybe you could use some help removing a virus or spy/adware or know someone who needs help, please refer them to our Security section, I help out with repairing malware infections there....

I graduated in 1967 from DCHS.

Byteman- I lived there from '76-'78 and would have graduated in '80. That first year for Rooney Fest was a beer truck and a bandstand... then years later I heard that it had turned into a major event! I've noticed they still do an annual pig roast coming up in May... bands, BYO & a plate to pass kinda thing. It's too bad that it got outta hand to the point of cease & desist. I'll see if I can find that shirt!

Hiya,

At one of the first get togethers before there was the "official RooneyFest #1"... there were only some big galvanized steel watering troughs with ice to cool the cans of beer.... Pretty hard to cool beer in August that way.... Things got much more organized each year. We had brands of beer that didn't cost much....Black Label, Piels, Schlitz....oww!!! and half warm.

I don't know why we didn't get kegs those first years. The year of Rooney 1 with the beer truck was kind of bad, too, if I remember it was hard to get close enough to actually fill up a cup....people who got one just went to the back of the line for another so the lines were way too long all day.

We quit providing beer and made it BYO when the crowds were large and a lot were from out of town.

The Pig Roast you see mentioned in posts here is in July- I see you are down South but if you can come up it's on the mountain- you'll see info on the roast later this spring here.

Rooney Pig Roast
Anyone know the date for the Rooney Mtn Pig Roast?

I'm hoping that we don't have a conflict already.
