Right here in this thread should do it.

rooney
I too found this site by googling it. I loved Rooney, I went with my cousin and my father. My cousin knew Virgil and we were introduced to him. What a great, nice person he was. I loved watching the people dance all day, and when I got enough liquid courage I would make it out there too. Hypnotic has to be my favorite.

A couple of years ago, I went out to a bar in Binghamton and met a girl there. It was near St. Patty's day and we were listening to some Irish music. As the night goes on I say something about Rooney and she is like what? I said Rooney, she proceeds to tell me that he Uncle played in the Hat Company but was parlyzed or something and didnt play with them anymore. What a good time and a small world.

My band Killbilly played at Rooney Mountain several times. It was an amazing place and I still have mud on my guitar case.

They didn't play this year at the Rec Park Fest in Binghamton, NY and from what I have heard, they do play for private functions now but not on the road.

_ _ _ _ _ _But!...................

Here's a site featuring The Horse Flies, from Ithaca, NY..... If you recall the Tompkins County Horseflies, that used to play Rooney Fests..... some of the band still flies.... http://www.myspace.com/thehorseflies

And, you can still download or just listen to the early Horseflies taped live at the 1985 Rooney Fest here> Horse Flies Live at Rooney Fest on 1989-08-05

Rooney fest!
I cannot believe that was I reminising with a friend about the Rooney Fest tonight, and decided to Google it, and found this forum!!

Loved to have read the stories here about Rooney mountain; as the saying went 'If you can't Rooney you ain't S@$** What a blast! I was there; I think in 1987-1989. I have so many pictures from the festival! I was really whooping it up, back in the day! The music was so great; I remember dancing and partying forever!

I was thinking of starting a facebook page of the Rooney Festival; so everyone could post pictures of the great times!! What do you think? And Mr. Rooney himself was awesome!

We used to go up there with about 20 people or more at times!
What a blast, and never a fight, only peace and fun!

Anyway, glad to find this topic...planning on starting a Rooney Facebook page, will keep you posted!

Smile In Response to Rooney Mountain
I attended all but the last 2 "Official" Rooney's....we still gather up there once a month during the summer. If you open my profile and access my "Myspace" http://www.myspace.com/depositted and click on my photos, I have all kinds of albums which include over 100 photos from Rooney Mountain and Pics from all the Woodstock events from 1969-2006. We had the large "Horseshoe" fire pit just inside of Elem Street out behind the stage, past the outhouses. We had that spot for 20 Years....enjoy

Rooney
Like others, I found your forum while searching for the long lost Rooney Fest. I attended from 1996 through 2000, I believe. I would drive up from Delaware and meet my friend Alex on the hill. Hypnotic Clambake was another band that played there and ended up being kind of successful. The way I remember it, no matter how dry it had been, it was always muddy on the mountain! I also remember the mannequin that would dance in the crowd with her hand raised in the air.
