Time for me to go too. The young one will be home from school soon, and I can't wait to hear about her field trip.
Odin...I'm so glad you visited the ocean paradise. I enjoy your company, but I think you already know that.
Gabriel...It was good to see you. I miss chatting with you. I love your imagiation, and the tales that you spin.

#2689 | The hewn steps on this side of the cliff have made it easier to reach my destination. As I get to the top, I carefully make my way to the beach side and find a ledge to sit on. I can see the beach from here, but it is far enough back that I won't be observed. They have a fire going and I see horses and mules.
I can smell the salty air, and take a deep breath, filling my lungs. The sound of the waves crashing below bring memories flooding into my mind. My body becomes twenty again. I'm the one on the beach and those are my friends. That's my fire leaping in the air with joy and crackling to the beat of the music.
My feet are young and healthy again and I dig my toes into the sand and further so that my entire foot is covered. Then I lift it and watch and feel as the miniscule beads fall. Am I a part of the beach or is the beach a part of me?
A few of us walk down the beach a ways, but hurry back to the warmth of the fire and even more so to the warmth of our friends. We laugh at silly things, not ordinarily funny. But in our state of mind they seems hilarious. We sing like we are all virtuosos and to our ears it sounds wonderful.
As the moon slips across the sky, the years comes crashing down on me. I'm again on the ledge and the people by the fire are a new generation of dreamers. Slowly I stand. get my walking stick and quietly make my way to the stairs. I must not disturb the ambiance of this new generation of beach-goers. But I promise myself I'll come back and revisit old memories again.

#2697 | Hi, Bonnie's Mom, thanks for taking us with you. I loved the smell of the horses and mules, the feel of that sand through my toes, and, yes, the years vanished so that there weren't so many to contend with. I did try to sing a favorite song, but my darn granddaughter told me to hush. Next time, I'm leaving her at home. | | Distinguished Member with 20,245 posts. | | Join Date: Oct 2005 Location: USA Experience: Intermediate |
