Alabama teen disappeared during 2005 class trip to Aruba
ORANJESTAD, Aruba (AP) -- Aruban prosecutors said Thursday that authorities are investigating new evidence in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway provided by a Dutch crime reporter.
Natalee Holloway disappeared while on vacation in Aruba with classmates in 2005.
Information from reporter Peter R. de Vries may help resolve what happened to the American teenager, who vanished during a May 2005 school vacation to the Dutch Caribbean island, the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

#318 | Holloway case solved? New info surfaces
'May help considerably,' Aruba prosecutor's office says
updated 11:50 a.m. PT, Thurs., Jan. 31, 2008
ORANJESTAD, Aruba - Aruban prosecutors said Thursday that authorities are investigating new information in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway provided by a Dutch crime reporter. A source close to the investigation told NBC that the information is a secretly recorded conversation between Joran van der Sloot, a Dutch man who was a suspect in the case, and a person previously unknown to investigators in Aruba.
In the conversation, Van der Sloot allegedly gives details about the disappearance.
"The mystery of Natalee Holloway will be solved Sunday," De Vries said on the Dutch television show RTL Boulevard, which showed him meeting Natalee's mother, Beth Twitty, at an Amsterdam airport. "It was a big operation that we worked on for months."
De Vries’s Web site said the information was gathered through “an ingenious hidden camera tactic.” It said the reporter traveled to Aruba last week to inform authorities of his findings.

#319 | Oh, I'm quivering. So much new evidence, the authorities have had it for over a week, and they are leaking just enough so that the "main" suspect has plenty of "fleeing" time
Should make for good trash TV ratings on Sunday though | | Distinguished Member with 66,592 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: California Experience: Intermediate |

#320 | Dutch student denies role in disappearance Yeah, right.
He says he lied when he told someone he was involved in Holloway case
Associated Press
updated 4:49 p.m. PT, Fri., Feb. 1, 2008
THE HAGUE, Netherlands - Dutch student Joran van der Sloot said in a television interview Friday that he was lying when he told someone privately he was involved in Natalee Holloway’s disappearance.
Van der Sloot was interviewed by telephone by the respected Dutch television show “Pauw & Witteman” following reports that crime reporter Peter R. De Vries had captured him in an apparent confession.
“It is true I told someone. Everybody will see it Sunday,” said Van der Sloot, who has previously been interviewed by the program and whose voice was readily recognizable. De Vries claims to have solved the mystery of Holloway’s May 2005 disappearance with the help of an undercover investigation.
“That is what he wanted to hear, so I told him what he wanted to hear,” Van der Sloot said, adding that he had built up a relationship with the man he spoke to, but had never fully trusted him. He did not identify the man.
“It is so stupid, it is so stupid, it is really stupid,” Van der Sloot said, his voice cracking.
Aruban prosecutors said earlier Friday that they are reopening their investigation into Holloway’s disappearance after seeing De Vries’ material.

#321 | Ex-Holloway suspect admits role in video
Dutch man doesn't deny saying it, but says it was all a lie
updated 3:41 p.m. PT, Sun., Feb. 3, 2008
THE HAGUE, Netherlands - Hidden camera footage broadcast by a crime reporter Sunday apparently showed Dutch student Joran van der Sloot admitting he was with American teenager Natalee Holloway when she died on a beach in Aruba in May 2005, and that he called a friend and asked him to dispose of the body at sea.
"She suddenly didn't do anything anymore," Van der Sloot said of the 18-year-old Holloway in a conversation with a man he believed to be his friend.
The exchange, in Dutch, was recorded in a car that had been rigged with three hidden cameras by Peter R. de Vries, a Dutch television crime reporter who claims the footage solves the mystery surrounding Holloway's disappearance. It was shown on Dutch television.
Van der Sloot on Friday acknowledged he was caught on tape, but added that he was lying when he spoke to his friend.
In the video, Van der Sloot said he panicked and tried but failed to revive Holloway after she began shaking and then slumped to the sand.
He then used a pay phone next to a hotel's swimming pool to call a friend with a boat to dispose of the body, he said.
"The ocean is big," he added.
He said he and his friend agreed that Van der Sloot would go to school the next day so as not to arouse any suspicion.
Van der Sloot said his friend assured him he had taken care of Holloway's body and that the police were not going to locate it. "They will know nothing," Van der Sloot quoted the friend as telling him. In the images, Van der Sloot speaks matter-of-factly about the case, saying at one point, "I've not lost any sleep over this."
He also said that while Holloway looked dead he could not be sure she was not still alive. Her mother: 'I hope his living hell' begins "I hope his living hell is about to begin and that he never gets another night's sleep," she added.

Prosecutors announce they are reopening Holloway case, AP reports
Material from Dutch journalist "may shed a new light" on how Holloway died
(CNN) -- Aruba's chief public prosecutor has requested that a suspect in the Natalee Holloway case be arrested for a third time based on new evidence, a source familiar with the investigation told CNN.
Hans Mos expects to hear a ruling from a judge as soon as Saturday or Sunday on the request regarding Joran van der Sloot, the source said.
If the judge rules in favor of the request, van der Sloot -- who is attending college in the Netherlands -- would be brought back to Aruba for further questioning and investigation, the source said.

#327 | Strange that the only thing we believe from this guy is this recent statement although he has proved to be a pathological liar. I think his USA attorney needs to either shut up himself or at leaste quit smoking that same stuff they sell in Aruba.
Personally I think he killed her with a date-rape drug then disposed of her using a row boat (probably obtained by his father.) I also wouldn't be suprised if the local police always knew part of the truth-reference the questions to her family about any past problems with seizures- a very strange line of questions for a missing teen situation. | | Distinguished Member with 66,592 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2004 Location: California Experience: Intermediate |

#330 | It IS just another U.S. tourist. That's the part you guys don't get.
And despite the dribble you hear coming from the "don't go to Aruba" spewing mouthpieces, the tourist business is VERY alive and well there. I've been twice since this started. They aren't losing any sleep over it....OR tourist dollars for that matter | |
