Wtg Tgg. now share those pic's!!

Frank a question about Dahlias, refering to the first pic you posted above... On one of mine the purplely part that comes out of the soil is a bit leggy, Is this normal? I 'll try to take a picture later today if you don't get the visual.

I am just happy they are growing!

As long as they are growing that's the main thing......

I want to ask a question here. It is about sweet peppers. Ihave these pepper plants growing in the house now. I took the seeds out of a pepper that I bought in the store.

I just want to know if the peppers are like tomatoes and can't handle any frost. I just want to know when would be a good time to transplant them into the garden. Because if they can handle a little frost then I don't have to wait so long to transplant them.

Around here the tomatoes can't go in the garden until after the full moon in June.

And there is also information on other vegetables. Thanks. I am sure that there will be others that can also use this.

It looks like you have them indoors, so that's why, they are reaching for the light, is it possible for you to put them outdoors ? they like sun, just cover them at night if any frost is forecast.

They look fine though, don't worry. as they get taller just stake them.

I tend to just leave them alone, Water established Dahlias thoroughly and deeply once a week. Water more frequently if it's very hot. and dead-head them to keep them flowering, some do take off the smaller flower buds so they get bigger flowers, but I don't bother I just leave them on.......

Carole said Hi back, Jaki loved his pat, thanks

The the Dahlias are like cabbage plants. We always make a little green house, and put the cabbage seeds in soil there. If they are started in the house, they too, will reach for the sun light and the plants are then useless.

The green house that we set up is just three old storm windows that we make a frame for and lean them againsit a south facing wall. On the sides you just staple on plastic. And under the plastic it might be a good idea to put on some chicken wire. If you have cats running around outside they will like to use the soil and leave their litter there.

It was warm out here about a week ago and I had put the seeds in. And it is now getting cold again and I looked to my surprise and the cabbage plants are starting to come up.

Hello everyone.

My garden is filled to bursting with new growth but I managed to fit in the following plants yesterday, two of them in a pot each:

Phlox "Candystripe
Fritilaria
Dodecatheon "Meadia" - I don't know this plant and am going to look it up on the net
Arabis "Ferdinandi-Coburgi" Variegata

I also planted out a piece of jasmin "Clotted Cream" that I've rooted. I've put lilies in pots - tiger and Jersey lilies and hope they grow - the slugs have already had a go at them!

The new dwarf Kilmarnock willow is growing very fast, along with the clematis and everything else. The grass is very long and needs to be cut. I'm hoping to get that done today in between everyone else there is to do, and I'm working this evening.

Hope your gardens are bringing you delight.

Here's a photo of blackthorn that I passed the other day - wonderful display of it this year.

Smile Excited!
Received my Tech Guy newsletter today and was very excited to see this new forum! The only other forum like this that I participated in was at Birds and Blooms.

I would like to think that we could also exchange seeds. I have some I have started this year from someone at the other forum. There are also places on the web where you can print out seed packets. It is so much fun to share!

I am doing an herb garden for the first time this year. Nothing elaborate and I am starting all from seed with the exception of the Sage which I bought as a seedling. My goal is not just to cook with them but to make dried herbal baths that can be healing and theraputic as well. I have Rosemary, Chives, Sage, Lavender,....

This year is our second year for a garden, and while last year was relatively small we have expanded to include corn, tomatoes, okra, squash, cabbage, cucumbers,...

We choose not to use any pesticides or herbicides. As I am an avid bird watcher and feeder, I want to make sure I don't inadvertenly poison them or the butterflies. I have a Finch Feeder, a regular bird feeder, and Hummingbird feeders.

In the Spring I get to enjoy the migration of the Indigo Bunting and the RedBreasted Grosbeak. Haven't spotted the Grosbeaks yet, but can't miss the Indigo Bunting.

I also have a wonderful mosquito repellant plant from the Mint family which smells wonderful. It comes back every year more lush than before. Since it can be invasive, I keep it contained in a large pot.

I have many Lilies and wildflowers that return each year. Dunno what happened to my Daisies last year, but have plenty of Black Eyed Susans and Daisy seeds to start over with. And I also will send Cardinal Vine seeds to anyone who wants it. Many call it a Humminbgbird Vine but it's a different plant with very feathery lacy foliage. It reseeds itself and produces many small bright red flowers that butterflies and hummingbirds alike love. Email me at moonifa@gmail.com if you would like some of those seeds.

Happy Gardening! Moonifa

Welcome to the TSG's gardening thread Moonifa!! One of our Mods started this thread a number of years ago and it just gets better every year......

I am always interested in seed exchanges, and I would some hummingbird vine!! Right off the top of my head I know that I have mixed columbine seeds ( mixed meaning I have no idea what color they are ), also snapdragon seeds!

Frank, question for you! Do the squirrels like to eat dahlia tubers? I swear I saw the furry critter scampering away with one in his mouth
