It does have the same kind of bulbs /roots as a standard orange lilly..
Its very difficult to say what that plant should have been owing to its distorted growth etc,how on earth has it survived under there?, I would imagine that the soil must have been bone dry also ....it just shows the power of nature, that even under such adverse conditions that plant still tried to grow and flower ...must say I agree with you it does look like some kind of Lily ....

Frank, beautiful as always!! We have been on the soggy side here, rain, rain and more rain . I can barely get outside to get anything done.. We have had one decent day out of the last nine.. Cold too about 47 degrees...
Like you we have lots of rain at the moment, and well below what the temperatures should be for this time of the year,I have mixed feelings about it though, because it is keeping the soil wet ready for the planting out of the summer bedding plants in the next week or so, (they are not quite ready yet owing to a poor start weatherwise) I hate having to plant them out in a heat wave ....I have managed to get 5 hanging baskets up and running and they are in place and growing well at the moment ...and all this rain is also keeping my ponds topped up Im just looking forward now to having everything planted out and a prolonged spell of good weather, hope your weather improves soon ...happy gardening all

Those pics brought back some wonderful childhood memories for me. The elderly lady that we lived next door too, had a garden full of peonies. She was quite a gardener. Since my own grandmother lived so far away....she was like my adopted grandmother. And I always associate the peony with her

Hey all,

Most of the perennials survived our relatively mild winter (lost a Russian Sage, and one of the new Blue Hydrangeas... and a Honey Crisp apple tree ), but spring has been quite cool to this point, so I haven't planted the annuals yet. Here's what I've got goin on right now.

The iris are in their full glory, the batchelor buttons are coming on nicely, and the daisies are about to pop. It is raining now, so later today should be just glorious
