Hello there. Sorry you had problems viewing my photos (yes, I'm metuppence there). Were you able to sort the problem?

Yes, it was lovely to have a clear sky and to see the meteorite.

"Thunderheads" are also known as black pines. I have a much bigger white pine in a pot and this little one will complement it very nicely. I took a photo of it today and will post it later.

I know what you mean about grass being churned by dogs' feet. If I had the money, I'd have more of the lawn paved. I managed to have a patio at the top of the garden, outside the kitchen, but would really like less grass and more paving. Perhaps you could have an area of gravel or slabs for your boy to charge about on. I didn't get to cut the grass before the wet weather came in and it doesn't look particularly good, but it will have to wait now.

I was given raspberry canes, more than I needed so I passed some on using "Freecycle" - an excellent organisation with local groups throughout the world.

http://uk.freecycle.org/

One lot were collected this morning and another is waiting to be taken tomorrow. The person who collected them this morning has an allotment which he's spent the summer clearing. He emailed me to say the raspberrys are already planted and waiting for the spring!

I've some for myself when I can get on to the vegetable garden over the weekend. They already have buds - don't think they ought to.

Are you listening to the Test Match coverage or do you have "Sky" TV?
I leave the radio on at night and fall asleep to it.

Bye.

http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/fruit_..._raspberry.asp

Just a quickie, found this it may be useful ..note the point about correct pruning height after planting...

Iam interested in cricket but dont have sky, have Telewest cable for my TV,I usually watch ball by ball scorecard on Teletext or sometimes even on www.bbc.co.uk/cricket ...we have already lost this first one Australia have a lead of over 600 runs now and Im afraid we are just not good enough to get anywhere near that ....

The weather forecast for this area for the next 4 days is heavy rain and winds of up 75 mph in places so it looks like being confined to indoors

Till next time take care all

OK. Thanks for the raspberry link. I'm afraid to look now and find out I've cut mine back too much!

I've got Telewest, too. Back in the Summer I could afford Sky to see the Test Matches but I can't at the moment. I listen to TMS on the radio.

Oh, blow, Frank! I could have got you to smuggle one over for me. Lovely to have them growing there naturally.

I haven't been able to bring "Dublin Bay" (rose) home yet - that's the next on my list to plant. Next weekend, I hope.

Hello Frank, everyone.

I hope Carole's enjoying her holiday in Hawaii, Frank. What does Jaki have to say about her being away?

One of the ladies on the rose site I visit wrote an article on miniature rose bonsai for the American Rose Society and I'm hoping to receive a copy from her. I've a couple of miniature roses in the garden but don't know their names. When they're sold in general stores (rather than garden centres) they don't have names attached. One is red and the other pink.

I've still not got the manure on the potato bed - too wet to walk about on the soil without sinking!

Penny

Good to hear Carole's enjoying herself.

Typical! Silly-Jaki. Exactly like Cecil.......the rotten dog managed to take my Advent Calender from the wall in the hall this morning and ate all the little chocolates behind the windows. I would have been opening them now.

One of our television stations had a special report on composting indoors with worms. Here is the link they provided and then just look for the article. Sounds pretty interesting to me - what do you think?

Cecil says "Woof, Woof, Thanks Frank, "Woof, Woof".....

Do you still have the white stuff?

I gave two little oak trees in pots to a neighbour today, to plant in fields she owns. It's still very wet here, and windy at times.

Bye

Hi Everyone,
Nice to see the gardeners are still busy here,
we are heading into a hot dry Summer with water restrictions that could severely restrict watering our gardens
We've had an excellent lot of roses with the dry conditions & a lot less black spot.

I like your Thunderhead Pine Penny, it will make a lovely Bonsai,
I was at 'Garden World' last month & they had those 'Wollemi Pines' for sale, the newly discovered Jerrasic Age pines in NSW, Aust., they've raised a lot from seed for export & those they have on display in the Botanic Gardens have security fences against theft.
It is related to the Bunya Pine, .... see links below ....

I took a couple of photos of the Bonsai Pines at Garden World also, so will post a few pics for you

Frank! I expect Carole wouldn't mind going without the snow! Hope she has a safe journey home. Jaki will be so excited! You should find someone on "Webshots" in your home town and ask them to photograph the oak (if it's still there). Someone did this to me, asked me to post photos of a certain street in the town. Do a search on WS for your town and find photos and send a message to the photographer.

Thanks for the very interesting photos and links, Yvonne. I'd quite happily take those pines home. I saw the programme on TV about the newly discovered pine - it stated that it was being raised in different locations. I expect it's expensive to buy, still - is it on sale to the general public, yet? You are lucky not to have much black-spot - it's so damp here that it's been rife this season, and rust, which I've not seen in my garden before. Hoping the roses get over it and grow well next year.

Christmas is a-coming.....wheeee!
