#916 | I love the aroma of jasmine. I also note Sweet Woodruff in the last thumbnail, a thoroughly lovely plant.
I've got Moonflower, have for years, but I've never been present to watch them open, that could be fun. I might have to try it some night, once I pry my fingers from this PC
I never liked zucchini growing up, as my mother cooked it to the consistency of oatmeal mush, but once I got to savor it, properly prepared, as an adult, I fell in love with it. Preparation and presentation make all the difference. | | Distinguished Member with 6,678 posts. | | Join Date: Jun 2003 Location: Trowbridge, Wiltshire, England, UK Experience: Learning as I go along |

#917 | Very nice to see your flowers, MCQ. I have a jasmine called "Clotted-Cream", the flowers of which are the colour of that cream and they smell heavenly. I'm pleased you liked my new "gravel garden". It's going to be so much easier not having all that grass to cut. Can't wait, now, to get the rest of it paved but that's on hold until I have some spare cash.

#920 | You're welcome, Jaki I hope Franca isn't stingy with the pressiez.
Eggy: That Jasmine is divine. I can't get enough of it; it's so sweet you can taste it.
LOL @ your mother's "over cooking". I hated veggies growing up and that's simply because my Mum boiled the goodness (literally ) out of them leaving only a watery mush. Brussell sprouts and peas were the worst, as there was a rule that you had to finish all of your dinner, so often had to eat them cold. Sometimes the next day. UGH. It wasn't until I had Chinese stir fry that I knew what veggies were supposed to taste like, and have just-barely cooked them, or eaten raw, ever since.
Sweet Woodruff it is! It never does get very large is my recollection. Dainty little thing. Thanks, again.
Penny: My lawn is growing more weeds and crabgrass than the nice sort this year and I'd sooner get rid of the lot that attempt to weed it. It would be 80% bare and I'm not kiddin.
Since you've encouraged me here's a couple more snaps of my flowers this year: Pee Gee Hydrangea (when the sun's on them, they're like snowballs in summer) , Hot Pink Summer Phlox (I think ~ I get it mixed up with Sneeze wort), and another favourite, Cosmos (pastel colours) as well as my Cone Flower and Delphinium, are looking splendid, despite the rain tattered petals.
Take care everyone. | | Distinguished Member with 10,460 posts. | | |

#923 | Consider your head slapped, Frank!! You are a laugh!
Hope both Jaki and Buster were good boys on their birthdays. Love the photos. I'm just waiting for Graham to ring for me to walk to the "Beehive" at Bradford-on-Avon to collect Cecil.
Thanks for the photos of your flowers, MCQ. Very pretty.
I picked five little tomatoes today and noticed that there are a few tiny beans on the runner bean plants, so I might get something from them this year. It's warm and dry again so I watered the leeks this morning when I did the tubs and pots.

#924 | Hello "Angel" Another sunny Friday morning. I've a little grass left to cut and plan to do that later after walking the dogs. "Milo" has been staying for a week and is due to go home today or tomorrow.
I'm watering the leeks as no sign of rain for the past week or so, and the pots, tubs and bonsai, of course. I've very pretty white lilies with chocolate brown stamens in a pot by the front door. I checked to see whether there were any tomatoes yesterday, but they're not ripening yet.
Here's a photo of "Perpetually Yours" (also known as "Canterbury"), flowering in its first year.
The two hibiscus are in flower, one is blue, the other tricolour.
Hope you all have an enjoyable day in your gardens.

#926 | That's an interesting looking rose. I bet it would look really interesting growing over a trellis you could walk through. | | Distinguished Member with 16,187 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2002 Location: Vancouver British Columbia |

#929 | Thanks, everyone. Yes, it's a lovely rose. It does well growing over something as its flowers hang.
Saturday has started hazy, so it's going to be very hot. The warm weather did at least enable me to paint preservative on the new gate and fencing and for it to dry quickly. If I've
the energy today, I'll cut the small piece of grass I have left.
I walked to Bradford-on-Avon yesterday evening to collect Cecil, left at 6.45 p.m. to meet him and Graham at the pub and had supper, then got back around 9 p.m., just as the light was fading.
Hope you all have a very good weekend in your gardens. I'm off to water the leeks, bonsai and pots.

#930 | Greetings, Well you were right Penny it was hot,had the fans on blowing cold air for most of the day, not a lot to do in the garden at this time of the year, just waiting for things we can harvest, did manage to get enough Runner beans for dinner on Sunday, but still patiently waiting for those Tomatoes to start ripening I can see they are ready to turn but they are hanging on as long as they can before they do,its as if they know you are waiting once one turns then they will all start to go,because of that gas they give off....have several Cucumbers also of pickable size but the plants themselves are not at all what they should be,due to the inclement weather of late ....the first flush of Dahlia flowers is now almost over, they too suffered, but am hoping they will regenerate and come again, still plenty f time before the frosts hopefully, trouble is a lot of the lower leaves have been eaten off by presumably slugs, though I cant say I have seen any ...I will just have to wait and see ....it was painful watching England capitulate in the cricket but it was inevitable I suppose once India posted that massive total, lets hope they do better in the one-day matches that are coming up ...
I watched Liverpool play Aston Villa on the telly yesterday Frank and they should have won by 6 at least, they wasted so many chances they are looking good though once these new buys get settled in,they wont be losing very many times, Gerrards winner was as per usual something special what a player that man is ...
Have work of a different nature this weekend having to clear out the back bedroom which is used as a storeroom and its full need to do this as we are having a new Central heating boiler fitted mid-week and they need to get the floorboards up for pipe laying etc, heaven knows where we are going to put the stuff, most of its junk, that we keep thinking, that might come in useful it very rarely does .... so I dont mind the fact thats its poured down all night, and everythings is thoroughly soaked....just hope I have time to water all my containers, because no matter how hard it rains, they dry out daily....see you all soon
