I noticed noone started this year's thread so here it is,
The official gardening thread of 2006!!

I myself don't have enough sunny areas for a full fledge garden. I mainly have a few flower beds and do a bit of container gardening!

I can't wait til the days start getting longer and I will be able to start some seeds indoors!

Tree trimming and repairing last year's grub damage in the lawn, are first on the list.

Hi Treespirt, Trekguy and Frank!! Frank you have such a nice long growing season.. Does your season ever really stop??

We had a bit of sun today, that has been pretty scarse around here. Maybe 3 days where sun has peaked out in the 7 weeks. I am surprised the whole state of Michigan isn't in a depressed state..
Atleast I can get out of this winter funk by talking about gardening

Frank, Have you heard from Penny at all? I hope she is doing well, and if you talk to her tell her pop in and say hello!

Yeah, agreed on the clouds... haven't seen the sun much this winter. However, the clouds also help keep the temp from dropping at night, so I guess I can't complain too much. We have had one of the warmest winters ever up to this point, I don't think it's been below zero for more than a few days so far. Nice!

How nice to see what was started back in 2003 has continued. The last two years have been rather hard for me but hope 2006 will be a bit better. Nevertheless both years I had my gardens which produced much enjoyment and fruit for my labors. I am already planning my 2006 gardens and am in the process of getting the seeds necessary to bring life once again to the currently frozen ground.
Here is a Picture of my garden in May. Taken from a small plane which we were privileged to ride in.
Take care all and hope to spend a bit more time here this year enjoying everyones gardening.

I don't think so......... was out all afternoon yesterday in my shorts from 1pm till 5pm just messing in the gardens it was like a spring day sunny and very mild

Man I wish I had a garden.

We have kept a garden before but now it's just a plot in our yard, filled with weeds and pokeberry bushes that haven't been touched for three years, surrounded by chicken wire.

And there's the fact that I have the opposite of a green thumb.... Cacti are supposed to be easy to take care of but I have even managed to kill one of those before.

We've had such a mild winter, it's a wonder the flowers and trees haven't started blooming yet. I even saw a raccoon last night, even the animals are confused

Treespirit, it was so warm here that I actually had a pansy turn green in one of my pots that didn't get put away. Very strange winter, and here I thought this year was going to be the rough winter that we haven't had in years..

TGG, like Trek said, we will help you turn that brown thumb green You will be the envy of every teen in the neighborhood

Frank, Carole looks like a very sweet lady, and Jaki looks like quite the playful pup!

Maybe I'll give something a shot this year. Maybe an herb garden if nothing else-I really love fresh herbs and cook with a lot of spices whenever I can.

Hello folks - surprised to see me, I bet! It's been a long time since I was here last.
Thanks for starting the new thread, Steppinstone.

How are you all? Your gardens are all in the depth of winter, no doubt, though here the weather is more often mild than winter-like: we did have a cold morning today, with frozen water in the bird bath and ponds.

My bonsai are "slumbering" quietly, waiting for the Spring. There are catkins on the hazel at the bottom of the garden - which is usual, as they appear anytime from January to March.

I'm hoping to plant a Victoria plum this year - have asked at the garden centre for one on a dwarf rootstock and there's a mini-rootstock available. The tree won't get much past 8 feet high, whereas ordinary plums are huge. I've got to think of some way of stopping the dogs peeing on it as it's going in the middle of the grass in the back garden - could plant it in an old tin container, with the bottom removed. Will have to ponder on that. Any ideas?

My alpines in their pots and tubs on the patio are also waiting for Spring, but there are shoots of miniature crocuses showing already.
