Sorry, I took that statement as an absolute.
I also missed an age limitation.
For myself, I've always had family that I could lean back on for support.
Just seemed kind of sad to me.

young children have to depend on their parents for survival.

So I'll rephrase....... If you have a choice.....don't depend on anyone for anything.

You can accept support or what not from others...... just don't DEPEND on it. Dependance on others puts you at their mercy. If they fail to do their part....then what?

Sorry...... just the way I feel right now.

I do hope things work out for you, Bonnie.
Our life experiences are different and outlooks different from that.
In political considerations, I'm usually of the notion that independence is a virtue.
I have a small family, separated by geography and the fact that the American side never was large and mostly gone now.
We pull together pretty strongly when needed and for the most part, know that it's there. There are exceptions, of course.
What works for you may not for others.
What works for me may not for others.
There have been times in my like I needed that support, depended on it and returned it.

Sorry to have taken the topic into a 'touchie feelie' emotional minefield, but the above is the way it's been for me.

Take care
