The U.S. has already said it doesn't believe it is terrorism...

Updated: 5 minutes ago

NEW YORK - A small aircraft crashed into a high-rise on the Upper East Side, raining down debris on Manhattan and unleashing what witnesses reported was a gigantic fireball, police said.

The aircraft struck the 20th floor of a building on East 72nd Street, said Fire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows.

There were no immediate reports on injuries. A U.S. official told Reuters there was no reason to believe the incident was terrorism-related.

The building it hit, the Belaire Apartments, has 50 floors and is located in the Lenox Hill neighborhood of Upper Manhattan, according to the building’s Web site. Apartments occupy floors 22 through 50; a hospital is on the lower floors.

Is the building going to fall like the WTC did? If it does, then I'll buy into the bush conspiracies.

Video from the scene showed at least three floors in the high-rise engulfed in flames. A column of gray smoke rose over the city, and raging flames could be seen in four windows on two upper floors.

NBC's Jay Blackman reported it was a fixed-wing aircraft operating under visual flight rules, which means the aircraft did not have to be in contact with air traffic controllers.

canndy: I think that would depend on the inside structure of the building...I pray it doesn't collapse...they have no equipment to fight a fire that high up...so looks like the firemen are once again going to have to go in and risk their lives.... I just pray there aren't too many fatalities and that it was just an accident! (

What the hell does it's falling have to do with anything? Really. That makes no sense.

This update:

Officials at the Federal Aviation Administration and the FBI said there was no reason to believe the incident was terrorism-related.

Nonetheless, a military official at NORAD said that as an extra measure of security, there were "numerous fighter jet patrols" over several U.S. cities.
