Today, a guy, who is working for the water company, came to replace the water meter in my basement because it was outdated. When he was adjusting the new device, he managed to break the incoming pipe before the main valve.

The water started to gush like a geyser.
Quickly I asked the guy to stop the water in the street : as he didn't have the plans, he was unable to stop the flooding in my house.

With his cellphone, he tried to call his colleagues and he got no answer.

Fortunately, my neighbor loaned me his electric pump.
Finally, after half and hour, the guy got reinforcement; they found the main valve in the street to stop the flooding and they started to dig in the sidewalk near my house to remove the broken pipe. They spent nearly four hours to remove it because they hadn't the appropriate tools.

They replaced the pipe, put a new joint and restarted the water : it was not the good type of joint, water was still leaking

They had to cut the water again to replace the bad joint.
Oof ! Everything is temporary OK. As they had no more time to refill the hole in my sidewalk, they left and I have to wait the next week.
