Productivity

Why do so many employers fail to realize that being productive means to make efficient use of ones time? It does not mean do more with less. When given a finite amount of time to work in one can only accomplish a finite amount of tasks, being productive does not mean finishing every anal retentive piece of crap task that is thrown your way. Eventually a wall is hit, in order to accomplish all the tasks given corners have to be cut and the quality of work is diminished as no time is left to pay attention to details. This inevitably leads to jobs not only being done poorly but in some cases flat out being done wrong, which means someone has to REDO the job.
Now the employers version of "productivity" has become counterproductive ...... seems kind of short sighted and stupid to me.

rant done, thanks for reading

Maybe a lawyer could pop in and comment but for some I heard there was a legal reason to not shovel

If you shovel and somebody slips and falls they can sue you for not keeping it clear.

Where if you do not shovel it is natural and they can not sue you.

Not saying that is a good excuse but that is one I have heard over the years

Good rant! And I totally agree!

I have a somewhat similar problem.... I am asked to document every little thing I do, almost to the point where my documenting is starting to take up more time than actually doing the work! It's almost to the point where when I do something, it has to be documented in two or three different places, so if something changes, there are two or three places that I have to go back and adjust! I understand wanting to "quantify" my work... but nobody really needs to know how many phone calls I took or how many emails I sent/received. But trust me, there are way more reports than that. Reports! Reports! Reports!

I live in one of those cities mentioned by Lex, the sidewalks have to be cleared within 48 hours of a storm ending. However it seems as though citations are rarely issued

Spelling. I know I probably don't have the best sentence structure or grammar in the world, but at least I can spell correctly. Most people have a functioning knowledge of the English language and spelling does give some weight to a person being an intelligent being. Internet-speak also counts.

Vacuuming. I won't let my roommates vacuum as they go everywhere and probably miss spots. I vacuum, in lines, per room, to ensure I get everything. A little OCD, I know, but it really does look better.

Driving. Left lane is the go-fast lane. The speed limit for 5mph over does not count.

Rudeness. The LEAST one can do in a civilized society is show some type of respect for a fellow human being. Be it opening a door and saying thank you, to letting another person in on an off-ramp, etc. I'm all about being nice to others but am getting away from the practice simply because others do not even have the common courtesy to say "Thank you". Is it really that difficult?
