Solved: Will you donate to a charity at Christmas?
this year I will give a monetary donation to The dogs trust, when my sister died we were left with her lovely dog that none of us could look after unfortunately, they helped us by taking Molly and finding her a good home which we are ever grateful for, also I will donate to my local Cat Protection league as they do a great job in finding new homes for the puddy cats and rely solely on donations from us. I recently watched the local dogs trust workers walk the dogs around my neighborhood asking for help in finding them homes, my heart went out to the lovely animals that I knew I could not help personally but I could at least give them valuable aid to help them in their quest to home many unwanted pets who by no fault of their own, find themselves homeless at Christmas and will always need help because all too often people take on these pets without thinking long term and then decide they can't be bothered looking after them
I also remember my local hospice whose work is awesome in pain control for the terminally ill and also in supporting their families indefinitely

I do, and not just a Christmas time. Trick is in doing research on which charities 75% of the money is actually used for the purpose you donated (75% or better is considered good) rather than expenses. I will never donate to United Way of Los Angeles County even though my employer twists arms to get people to do so, my money can be put to better use.

I don't think there's a need for research, trickery or results ...you act on what you believe in and what you witness and what your heart tells you.... unless you wanna make money along the line..

Well, you don't want to give $1 to a homeless looking guy outside a convenience store, only to watch him go inside the store and buy a bottle of MD 20/20 with the $1 you just gave him plus the $3 he collected from people before you. That isn't helping anything.

Similarly I don't want to give to a charity that has a record of only 60% being used for the cause I am giving to and the other 40% pissed away on *cough* "expenses" *cough*.

I believe charity begins at home and we have a close family member(s) that need help off and on so we do what we can as the year goes by.

I donate throughout the year to various charities. I donate extra to several at Christmas and Thanksgiving to feed people. And I drop some money in the Salvation Army pot when I see one.

I give a few cents here and there to the salvation army (those bell ringers that stand outside of stores with a red kettel and ring a bell)

I try and donate to the vets once or twice a year and around Christmas donate to the Southwest Indian Foundation's food basket or stove drive. Very worthy cause

I donate throughout the year, but after bonus time, I like to do the more major donations - American Red Cross (they are always there at every disaster) Foodbank of NJ - hate the idea of people going hungry, and this year I am going to donate to http://www.heifer.org/ - I'm a Capricorn - so I am going to pay for someone to get a goat

oh, and Toys for Tots http://www.toysfortots.org/

I agree that you should make sure that someone in your family doesn't need your care first before you try to save the world.

I am not in a position to donate to charity; instead, I do charity work, to help out the charities that I get assistance from at this time of year.

That's really nice Jeb, but then again, I wouldn't expect any less from you. Blessings to you and yours at Christmas.
