Hi poochee!! Did you see my post about Rosie and Paula...Rosie is of course insinuatiing there is more than coke in Paula's cup...apparently she drank from it 17 times last night...it must therefore be liquor!

And only we can make fun of Paula...how dare Rosie!

Maybe she was thirsty. I think some of it is an act.

Rosie has a big mouth.

Uh.... Please show me where ANYONE has called American Idol "Intellectual." Seriously, NO ONE claims that it is high-brow TV. But it IS entertaining!

And people like it because they see themselves in the contestants. These everyday people... like you (yes, even you) and me go out and try to do something different with their lives. I think most people dream of being plucked from obscurity to be one-in-a-million. It's FUN to watch all of these different kinds of people. Everyone loves music. It's a common thread that we can all relate to.

And then you get some people like.... what we had last night.... when you look at the TV and think... are there REALLY people like that? Are they for real? It's people-watching. Voyeurism! We're not "just watching some losers get ragged on by Simon." You're oversimplifying. Quit trying to convince people that everything we watch has to be somehow intellectually stimulating. Sometimes we just want to have some fun. Go listen to NPR or watch PBS or something and leave the rest of us alone.

Seriously? That's your argument? CSI? Gabi follows CSI. They lay everything out for you at the end and its exposition takes half the episode. I still watch it, though. Because it's FUN!

Dude. American Idol is just as much "real life" as basketball is (and you know I loves me some basketball). Computer Networking guy singing Unchained Melody is ALSO something you just can't buy! They're both real-life drama! Just different! People get made fools of all the time on the football field, basketball court, tennis court, golf course, baseball field, hockey rink.... all for the entertainment of the masses. So that argument isn't so hot either. Because for every Tom Brady, there's a Carrie Underwood. There is great talent that comes out of AI. Kelly Clarkson has won Grammys and Billboard Music Awards, the list goes on. She is a legitimate recording star and all because of this "dumb" show.

By the way, 15% of the US watched the season premiere of AI. Not 15% of the TV viewing public. Not 15% of Americans with TV sets. 15% of the population of the United States. That is a lot, by the way. The only other shows that come close are the Academy Awards and the Super Bowl. It is the most successful TV series.... ever. Ever. In the history of television. Ever.

I never said it wasn't entertaining--I said it was stupid and I stand by that.

Well, not sure she should be watching that show at her age, and I doubt seriously that she follows it--she may follow the ultimate result, but there is a lot of science that's very sophisticated--perhaps you are aren't actually following it?

Uhhhh--no--that's not real life--Kelly Clarkson is NOT real life--she's a one in a hundred million--that's not real life. People making fools of themselves on TV is NOT real life, unless you consider Jerry Springer real life--and it may be in Texas, but I'm talking about the rest of the country.

Look--I don't know why you people are trying so hard to justify watching American Idol? Perhaps its out of guilt for all the people that are shamed and disappointed? Honestly--would you watch it if were REAL contestants only--only the best selected? Of course not--you are watching it to see people make fools out of themselves--that's the "Jerry Springer" element of television--that is we all like to see conflict--people watch Springer for the conflict. That's why threads here that are controvesrial get the most play. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that--I love to watch America's Funniest Videos to see how stupid people can be. All I am saying is admit why you're watching it and stop rationalizing it, OK?

I understand that--and by the time you get down to the finals, you have "bonded" with the people and have picked your favorites. However, you would likely not watch and in fact, it would likely not even be on anymore if they didn't have the people that they bring in because they are bad--to embarrass themselves--that's what makes the show so highly entertaining--its the full spectrum of human conflict--from failure to hero in one season!

Mulder. I'm going to give you one warning before I get really angry... Please do not insult my intelligence. I don't appreciate it and I don't find it humorous, in any form.

Truthfully, I didn't let her watch it at first. Her dad allowed her to watch it and now she insists on watching it if it's on. She is VERY good at covering her eyes on command without arguing. There IS a lot of science in it. But it is all explained in plain English before the end of the hour in every episode. That is what I meant by "exposition."

And don't insult my state, either. It's 20 million people, as diverse as any state in the union, if not more. I freakin hate "I don't know how they do it where YOU come from, but where I'm from we...."

I could just as easily argue that playing basketball for the University of Texas is NOT real life either! Very few people get to play basketball at such a large university in a powerful conference like theirs.

And American Idol contestants are making fools of themselves of their own free will. So what?

And we can't fathom why you're trying so hard to convince us that it's "stupid." Why would you come into a thread with AMERICAN IDOL in the title, where you know the fans would hang out.... just to tell us how stupid it is? You're basically showing up to insult us.

And yes, we obviously watch it when only the "good" contestants are left. Quit trying to tell us why we're watching something.

Uhhh--how did I insult your intelleligence? I think you are a being a bit too sensitive--you basically say what you want to be--insult me up one side and down the other and I don't give you any warnings.

And what are you going to do to me if I do insult your intelligence? Report me?

But its a game played at every level and millions of people go to college and root for their teams--college, high school, grade school--sports is what's real life.

Uhhh, again---you aren't comprehending--I told you I watch the 3 stooges--I told you I loved Rat Race--I never insulted you for watching--I never said you shouldn't watch--I never said there is anything wrong with watching--go back and read my posts. You are reading into this what you want--I don't know it bothers you so much that I think its stupid--that's all I'm saying--I could get millions of people to agree with me the show is stupid. What is the big deal? I think its stupid and you don't think it is.
