Hi everyone

OK the coffee, tea and chocolate is ready.

Your welcome YM

Tech, Glad you got the program fixed. But can any router just get reset by the reset button to get around any password? I knows it is crazy how you can get around any setting and password so easy on a router.
Hey I hope you get the UPS job.

The problem is that he has music files he purchased and they will not play. It has somthing to do with accounts. The program requires a registration to work and i registered it under a different name as its usual login credentials are not being excepted because it says you have reached the registration limit for that username which it only has been installed on that and one other pc (the limit is two) so they count as two and for the first and second pcs the hardware never changed but it thinks the limit has been reached somehow. Other than that they just want fax set up, i beleive a router firewall is on therefore some functions of the im program do not work and the wifi was incorrectly installed on WEP security when it should be WPA. I plan on fixing that, turning off the router firewall if on and or forwarding ports if necessary, setting up fax (i found the program used in our old desktop for faxing and figure i can configure that for their pc),fixing security, and repairs to guitar vision.
Try Uninstalling it .. Then when U reinstall disconnect from the NET first..

Do NOT let it online till U get everything all set then if it still acts up and your sure it's legit .. google the company and explain what happened.. They will assign U a new reg. number if U are correct about it being legal.

Good Luck
David

Thank you for the idea space. We did contact tech support about the problem and i explained the situation. What the company did was give us another registration for the program under the original account so we could re activate the software for that pc and with that registration, it allows all files purchased under that account to be played. So now he is ok. Maybe after a quick shower i will head up there and see if i can finish what i started. This means now i need to call their tech to see what he did to the router's password as i cannot get the router to reset itself. I cannot understand tho why it will not reset. I looked up information online on how that button works but it will not happen. I think it wipes itself and it gets some weird firmware message then just comes back and locks me out again. I will have to do some googleing on the subject see if there is a sledgehammer way to reset the silly thing. Once i reset it I should be good reconfigureing it. I heard the other tech was running around in DOS as well. That part makes no sense at all to me as the linksys software can walk you through the entire setup process. Although, he could simply be sending out a ping command to the router to make sure it is seen by the pc. But if i do reset it, windows will do a fine job of manageing the wired pc. Therefore, just point the web browser (in this case ie7) at the routers ip address which is default and go in and it would take me about ten minutes in the setup screen to configure the thing. The internet is an always on cable modem so that should be plug n play and not need further setup to get to the internet. As for the firewall, gotta disable that, then right there in settings set the wireless security to WPA. It should be ok and the other tech set up a very simple password. It is so simple it is suseptible to the WEP hack and a dictionary attack. So i wanna tighten that down some. I may use grc's password genorator to generate a password for the system and the client can simply save it in their yahoo webmail account. Im stumped when it comes to the modem tho as it seems to have an issue with not getting a dial tone. I tried the phone software from the desktop and set it up through windows and both have the same issue where the modem is not giving a dialtone. I check the phone and there is a dialtone but the modem in the pc does not receive it. Microfilter issue? I am now wondering if i install a microfilter on the phone line to the modem if it will fix the problem.

In other news, we had a bad storm last night. Kinda messed up one of our trees and i spent the morning cleaning that up. Well have a good one.

I don't care for the linsi routers. Seen to many problems with them But I'm not really into networking. Sounds like U may have taken a lightning strike. Maybe a blown port

Try unplugin' EVERYTHING and using a different port. You may have to redo all your settings.

Good Luck
Your gonna need it
