hey all . I finally reset that rampid router. Never beleive how it happened. I googled around on resetting routers and it turns out you can reset it by holding the pin hole and logging in at the same time. I think what that did was kill the firmware and it had a reset button which i think restores the original firmware (no update for it or i would load an update). Did that and next thing i knew it was factory again! I configured everything on the wireless security, we were having aim problems so i dropped the router firewall and forwarded its port. As for his cable internet even though it has no connection i think it is detecting on autodhcp as we entered nothing (modem was never shut off) and the computers had no trouble getting to the internet. I might reset the modem to see if the router is affected and if it is i can simply call comcast to get their logon credentials and clear up that whole problem in minutes. However, the comcast modem connects itself to the net and as long as linksys is set to autodhcp for that it should have no problem getting out to the net. The laptop seems to play with the connection for a moment when connected (it connects and drops a few times) then it will finally establish and maintain a steady connection to the router and get right to the internet.also WEP was upgraded to WPA. With the new settings, things should be good. I know the router is not firewalled but i see no breach in security there as each pc is secured by zone alarm firewall. Therefore, if the router was breached, the pcs are still safe and hacker will not get far. My sandbox pc had PCLOS 2007 installed and it works beautifully. Gotta set things up and get my sister a dvd ripping software. I had a strike of genius tho because all of the files come out as a bunch of files and i realized i can rip the file, possibly put them through my dvd program then have it output them as one file. Well i have a tour at UPS tonight. The modem has yet to be figured out too. We are going to tackle that tomorrow. HAGO all.

Hi everyone,

Fresh made coffee, tea and chocolate is ready.

Your welcome YM

Got your coffee IV ready too SC.

Good you got the router reset. Not sure but I don't think a reset will change the firmware.
On mine if I get into the router software page you can see what firmware version you have and the date. But all routers may not be the same.
I can reset mine and it will not effect the firmware but any other changes in the setting, password etc get changed back to the default setting.

hi all WELL comcast came out but instead of spending $200 for networking he did something and got mine to work for awhile but quit and both computers where down. called comcast they reset something but then it would not work with the router so called techsupport and explaned after getting done with them called linksys tech support and after a VERY LONG time on the phone got both computers working. had to reset and alot of stuff what happend was the router and card where not configered right so it caused them to fail. so the comcast guy that came out said that sense we already had the router they was no sense in networking. cause what they would do is replace our router and the cable internet modem with a all in one unit. another option he said is to justpoke a hole in the wall and run a 20 foot CAT 5 CABLE from the router to the computer. router does both wireless and wired. so if its fales again I will look into doing that sense theres a closet in the room on the wall behind mine. so it should be easy to do. he said I could just run the cable along the ground out of site and still 20 feet would be enough. so all is good for now.so so far he saved me $200

Hey all. Yes the router is ok. However, now i was thinking im growi g concerned as i never gave it credentials to log into his comcast modem although after the reset we tested everything and it seems fine. I realized today i will swing up and test the modem reset (power off and on) to see if the router can survive that. If so, then it is fine just using all of its AUTO DHCP settings. If it does not connect to the net we can call comcast for his logon information and probably clear that up in 5 minutes. The modem i need to tackle today and i fear what SC said about a lightning strike. Either that or i did not set somthing up. So i figure i can test the port on the other end and maybe check my parts pile to see if im sitting on an old modem somewhere i can test the theory on.Unless... i just realized there is a web fax thing on the internet. I think the site is efax.com...? Yes i think that is what it is. I just went there and it seems very simple to use. You have to pay but it all looks internet based. Well i need to call UPS today to set up an interview after the tour. Alot of good benefits in the company as well. Work seems simple enough, just basically move packages on conveyor belts. And they do everything on their own like repairs and such. Does not look like a bad place to work. Strenuous work but its not bad. Well HAGO everyone .

Update, well im finally done the work. The router is fine, however it was actin slow and funny so i figured i would install firmware again in case something was wrong with it when we reset it. It should be ok now, as for the modem issue, it turns out the wall jack the phone line from the computer was plugged into was an old line that was disconnected years ago hence the pc getting no dialtone from the phone line when faxes were attempted to be sent. They said they really dont need it that badly as i explained that all they would have to do is either revive the dead jack at the pc or just run a telephone line to another jack. They said they dont want to run the line so i just unplugged the phone line from the pc and wall and let them store it. Then disabled the modem and took out the windows fax software. It will be no problem to turn on the modem and reinstall the windows fax software. Everything else seems good there. So im just gonna leave it and hope no more issues arise. Well HAGO all.
