In those situations... I like to be completely quiet as possible. You know, when all you want to do is verbally rip someone a new one.... total silence tends to drive them crazy... or at least saying what you need to say in as few words as possible. It's a fun game! Anyhoo... when I'm done with the "silence is golden" treatment (which is handy because no one can hold anything against me), I then proceed to do ONLY what is specifically outlined in my job description. I am more than willing to go outside the lines of my particular job description, but not if people are going to take advantage of it.
And if THAT doesn't work, I like my new approach.... "I can either do [yet another time-wasting inane task that anyone can do] or I can do [something vastly more important and unique to my position]. Which would you like?" Because THEN if you don't get the more important task done.... you have that person to reference and say, "Well [Mr. Boss Man] asked that I do this other thing instead." With a smile, of course.
My random thought today.... houses. On continuous loop. And that patio set I saw on the Sam's Club website today... it had a fireplace in it... and it was only $700!

Freakin sweet! If only I could trust myself around fire, I'd be all about it!
