I hate the legal system. It's designed solely to inflict maximum damage for those who have the slightest legal hiccups.

fyi, I could go to jail for up to 60 days for a damn speeding ticket. I would lose my job, lose my housing, lose everything I own. Now how fair is that? Doesn't the state have better things to do? Do you know the nickname for Baltimore, MD? It is Bulletmore, Murderland. This is so frustrating...

Don't speed and you won't go to jail. Seems fairly simple to me.

In itself, yes, that is simple enough. But it is ONLY speeding, not drug dealing, not a hit and run, not assault, not anything like that. Pretty severe penalty if you ask me.

Except for when it kills.... and speed does kill. At least that's what my paramedic brother says.

Surely you're slandering Baltimore. The Wire makes it look such a charming city.

Speed kills...um, no. It is the sudden and violent stop that kills. I see no one dropping dead at the wheel for exceeding a speed limit.

In all seriousness, it has that ability but so does so many other things in this world. The two accidents I have been in were when I was going at or below the speed limit. It is called being a dumb driver and driver skill which is the fatal part of speeding.

Does it? Never seen the show. I rather prefer the live action version...

Sorry I was being sarcastic. It presents it as a decaying hellhole, run by corrupt officials, a barking police force, and populated by psychotic drug dealers. Great show though - possibly best ever US cop series - and that's saying something

Is it as good as Homicide? I loved that show, my favorite quote from that was when Gi said "There is no justice, their's just us"

I didn't watch that when it was actually on network TV, I watched it every night for months when they played the whole series back to back on Court TV - that was great....I'll have to see if it's out on DVD.

1.) People are moving out of Baltimore.

2.) The police force is barking

3.) The city officials are corrupt. A retiring cop told me that the city gov't is much like the mob. Unless you are family, you don't get in (non-elected positions that is).

4.) Psychotic drug dealers would be the ones responsible for the murder rate. A friend of a friend is one of them. No job, that is all he does.

Not seen Homicide, but I will investigate. The Wire is made by HBO, which along with Showtime and FXNetworks is America's greatest contribution to current popular culture. Apparently a real labour of love by HBO as it's never really caught on with US audiences, despite four series, and is hardly known over here. Difficult to follow, particularly for UK, as the accents of the black dealers are not compromised for a popular following. Wortrh the effort though.

They do have it , I just checked - is it hard to get US DVD's over there in Wales?

Maybe I'll check out The Wire - I'm jonesing for the Sopranos again, though. I always wait until the newest season comes out on DVD and then watch it through from season one it never gets old - each show has so much good stuff in it

My guess is that you would have to be going pretty damn fast to be threatened with 2 months in jail. Either that, or you missed your court date or otherwise did not meet the demands of the court.

Driver skill cannot be measured. That's the thing. It's so subjective. So a cop can't let you go for doing 75 in a 55 just because you're really good at it. Because then they'd have to let Barbie McBoobs go for doing 75 in a 55 while she files her nails. In other words, no cop has ever said, "Oh you're a good driver? Well then, carry on."

Traffic cops are on the road to discourage drivers from being a danger to others NOT to weigh your crime against "everything else" going on in the city at the time.

DVDs? What are they?

I did watch the series 7 premiere of the Sopranos last night though. More promising start than series 6, with a good fight between........... Got a feeling there's not going to be a happy ending

Are you making fun of me I know you knew what DVD's are, just wondering how easy it would be to get ones of US television shows- maybe it's a stupid question - maybe it's more a question from VHS days

To be honest, I don't know much about Wales - you don't make the news here that often.....like probably never do you have a link to a Wales news page so I can get a feel for things over there and not be so ignorant thanks
