I coulda swore that was him quoting some Japanese lady.

I'll go back and re-read just to make sure.

Edit: Nope, looks like I read it wrong. I went back, clicked on the article and read it alll the way through and it wasn't in there. Sorry. My mistake.

You can no more decide that a woman should work than I can decide that I can levitate. It simply doesn't work that way. There needs to be open lines of communication BOTH WAYS for any relationship to work.

And I don't mean 'I did this.' I mean 'What do you think of this?'

Money is an offshoot of how hard you work and what your goals are. If you set your goals relatively low and easy to reach, you can end up working very hard for very little indeed. If you set your goals higher, almost out of reach, you will work just as hard, but with higher incremental successes.

The military thing is a great idea, IMO. I wasn't in, but that is probably the only thing in my life I would change were I to live it over again.
Wasn't what I was exactly exposed to and not what I feel is the best way. I can't force a woman not to stay at home. I agree work smart not hart, but that corresponds to your liabilities as well. I had a discussion a while ago when playing a MMORPG. One person playing makes $50,000+ a year. Great, but he has two kids, and a wife who doesn't works. That means he is support 4 people on one income, if I not mistaken he had paid off his home. For the sake of the discussion lets take the American average and say he hasn't.

This puts the family in a strategic disadvantage as far as savings. What if there is an emergency? What if the house burnds down? What if your kids can't get a scholarship? One thing I never liked as a kid is how people would borrow money from my single-parent mother. In some cases those borrowing money were two-income homes. These two-income families made twice to almost 5 times what my single-income parent made. So why did they ask for money? In most causes poor fininacial decisions and obviously lack of savings. I myself have experienced this on two occassions. In these two out of three instances, the parties asked to borrow money. I made thousands of dollars less, and they had multiple sources of income (most of the time) and/or had kids. Both parties made more money than me.

I have families wihin my exteneded family where having a at-home mother worked, in some cases would have been nice, and about half the time it didn't work.

I don't do drugs, I have no criminal record, I have college credits and am one of many who plan on finishing college (many in my generation have), my parent had a bachlors, I have no kids (yes I am certain), and as you can read from my prior threads I for the most part an objective mindset.

You don’t need parent(s) on your butt to micro manage your life. If the parent(s) does a good enough job, then there is nothing to worry about. That is live, that is the objective. I’ll honest with you, my parent was a hard-butt, had to be. Waking me up in the middle of the night to do the dishes, getting up early to go school, making study like crazy for those spelling test (vivid memories there), etc.

As a result I am normally an hour early for work, I am determined to finish school. Even if I joined the military tomorrow and scored well on the ASVAB; in a few years could earn more than most in my family as far as yearly income!

THE MORE MONEY YOU HAVE, THE MORE TIME YOU HAVE TO PERSUE YOUR DREAMS. Why do you think I am looking for a better job or another part time job? I had a former coworker who worked doing the same thing I am doing now, and worked another job part time as well. Made more money than most people I know. She had a bachlors degree before hand, and is now earning more than $40,000. I myself am 9credits (3 classes) short of my Associates. If get the part time job I am thinking of I can earn $25,000 to $30,000, that would be much more than what I earn now. If I join the military tomrrow I “could” earn as much as $32,000 (yea what is he waiting for – read my military thread) and get NCO promotion to Staff Sgt by lets say before or during age 30 then that “could” be $40,000 to $60,000.

http://usmilitary.about.com/library/...6enlsalary.htm

http://usmilitary.about.com/library/...enlbasepay.htm

http://usmilitary.about.com/od/these.../rankchart.htm

So to sum it up; one of the issues I have with completing my education is scheduling. Because of my current schools schedule I can’t take many classes at once, normally one or two. That coupled with my scholastict defeats have delayed me. Thus making me poorer, thus limiting my opportuntities. So if your mate MALE or FEMALE doesn’t want to work and you have that much faith in them – more power to you. Just remember that in life all decisions have risk.

doesn't matter if you were exposed to it or not. You can't decide for yourself what someone else should be doing.

I make 50k a year, have a kid, 2 cars, a mortgage, and my wife doesn't work. We seem to be doing fine. My wife will be re-entering the job market shortly, but that doesn't change the fact that while she was off, we bought a house, we bought a minivan, and we lived the life.

Notice the 'we' part? That's something I don't think you are ever going to get. You try to force anyone into doing something, and all you are going to get is resistance.

I agree, about the "not forcing thing." Congrats on your middle-class success! You've obviously earned it. Yes, I get the "... we part..."
