Distraught parents mark Madeleine's fourth birthday with a heartbreaking message to her .. The message from the parents of snatched holiday toddler Madeleine McCann was written on white card and tied to a pink balloon that soared high into a pale blue sky.

Hope this poor little girl is returned to her family safe and sound! It is terrible. So many youngsters have gone through this in recent years, it's really a tragedy.

On another note, however, I've been wondering about the earthquakes England has been getting of late. I'm a huge Hugh Laurie fan and have seen several interviews he's done on American tv with his hit tv show House, and, in one in partcular, the fact that he's living so much of the year in California (earthquake country), he was asked some questions pertaining to them. He made a statement that they "don't get earthquakes in England" and the country has been hit by two pretty powerful ones since then. What kind of history does England have regarding quakes??

"the earthquakes England has been getting of late" is really pushing it. There was one in Kent (SE England) a few weeks ago that made the news (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/6602677.stm). Before that, you have to go back to 2002 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/2275158.stm -- that one woke me up at about 0115, everyone else in the house slept through it )

There's a Q&A link at the 2002 article, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/2275751.stm. From there you can see that "Something on the Dudley size is seen once every 10 years or so."

I don't even remember the 1990 one mentioned.
