First, I apologize to CrazyComputerMan for my insensitive comment.

I'm replying in this thread as soon as possible after the expiration of my ban from this forum. Let it be known that I received no warning of this impending action against me. I do not receive email notification of replies to Random Discussion threads in which I have posted. My disciplinarian presumably could have known that and could have sent me an email or private message but he/she chose not to do so.

I have admitted that my comment was insensitive. The assertions that it was discriminatory and racist are absurd. How could I have discriminated against someone with no apparent disability? I did not know that CCM is deaf. Even if I had known, is not the definition of discrimination to treat someone differently because of their disability? My post was the opposite of that. Furthermore, I find it difficult to make the connection between a hearing deficiency and the inablity to use proper spelling, grammar, sentence structure and verb conjugation in written communication. Perhaps you can educate me on that point.

To accuse me of racism is exceedingly offensive. To find racism in my post is to find something that's not there. To quote Jaime Escalante: "You're in a dark room looking for a black cat that isn't there." I despise racism and bigotry in any form. I asked if CCM's first language was other than English. Most of the population of Europe and Russia is both Caucasian and non-English speaking. I looked at CCM's profile when I posted. The picture shows a young Caucasian man and the location is listed as the UK.

I would also like to explain my real intent in case it matters to anyone. It was a attempted disparagement of the confusing, societally worthless, so-called "leet-speak" that is inexplicably popular with teenagers and young adults. It is exemplary of laziness -- a character trait I find most distasteful. Secondly, my intent was to beseech you to learn to express yourself well. This is something you should have learned by now. I do not know about the educational system in your country but in the US you would be almost out of high school. If you hope to be taken seriously when you get to the university or begin your career, you will have to learn to communicate.

I have also been accused of having challenges with the English language. If you bother to read this post and hundreds of others I have made on this forum, you will find that the opposite is true.

For the record, the moderators have no way of knowing who chooses to subscribe to the forums thereby receiving an email of postings or not.

I would like to be the first to say thank you for the apology.

"The assertions that it was discriminatory and racist are absurd."

Agreed for "racist". For "discriminatory" ...

"is not the definition of discrimination to treat someone differently because of their disability?"

Yes & no. I'd guess there are numerous definitions "out there". The one that's in my head is "to treat someone less favourably ... etc.".

"I find it difficult to make the connection between a hearing deficiency and the inablity to use proper spelling, grammar, sentence structure and verb conjugation in written communication."

Got to admit I'm curious about that myself. Maybe a related condition? I'd be interested to know in the sense of something to look out for in future. I mean, in the past I'd occasionally flag up poor spelling/grammar until one day it occurred to me that ... hey, maybe that person is dyslexic.

"leet-speak ... exemplary of laziness"

Hmm ... maybe. #1 son is pretty literate but can do leet as well -- like a 2nd language. Maybe shorthand is lazy too (?) BTW (sorry), are you sure you meant "exemplary"?

But mainly, again for the apology.

rgds,
bomb

I've picked on someone to show off, have a laugh (at another's expense) or just be a meanie pants and have felt badly afterwards. I've done it here with a member before I found out why they did things the way they did.
I doubt few people who've been centered out for their spelling and/or writing style or communication or intellectual incompetence, heed the complainer's "learned advice", unless done so in a thoughtful, friendly manner, which was not the case here, in my opinion. They are more likely to be insulted or hurt and respond in kind or <CWLMST> or react another way as a result. There's a real crackdown in the guidelines at TSG regarding name-calling and insults, as tame as some think they are considering what's gone on before now (i.e., one member was given a time out for implying another was acting like a turd ... I think).

It's not the way to encourage learning or friendship, in any case.

Once CCM sees your post, I hope he accepts it and that'll be the end of it.
