First, we have had some severe drought conditions--even for here, very little rain. Second, the winds were extremely high. 3rd, the temperatures were extremely hot. Fourth, the relative humidity was extremely low. The coming together of all of those conditions at this time of year probably doesn't happen but once every hundred years. You have to remember that SC does not get rain from about April or May through about October or November. So the driest time of course is until the first rain falls in the fall. Normally, we don't see temperatures in the 90s in later October--add to that the winds and the low humidity and the fact the rain we did get last year was a fraction of normal, its like a dynamite keg and it finally blew up. Subtract any of those conditions and you don't have the conditions for such wide spread damage. This is worse than Katrina in terms of the No. of people evacuated.

Chris, I know that you know this already, but the board doesn't, so I'm gonna toot Cloe's horn a bit here. When I heard about Foothill Ranch, I was talking to Candy on MSN. Noone had heard from you, Chris. So, I grabbed my cell phone and called Cloe. If anyone could get your attention, we all know that she can.
She got you here, so we could all breathe a huge sigh of relief!
Thanks, Cloe.
Oh, and Chris? Nice dimples there, darlin'.

#21 | Here is a before pic of the back yard. Its different because it was taken before we re-did the back yard landscaping so you won't see the grey stone pattern that is there in the video and the planters near the fence. I watched that fire come over the top of those mountains you see in the distance and throughout the day move closer and closer. I'll post the video I took from earlier in the day--its pretty amazing too--but I need some hard drive space. Anyone got a link to an online server I can post too? Probably need about 50megs or so for the high quality and probably about 5 or so for those who don't have high speed download.

#23 | And here is the famous Mulder bedroom shot that was posted in the Home Improvement thread. I'll say this--as hot as that fire was yesterday, its wasn't nearly as hot as it gets in Mulder's bedroom when there's a woman in there! | | Distinguished Member with 19,130 posts. | | Join Date: Nov 2002 Location: Upstate NY Experience: enough to know better |

#26 | I was filming from that bedroom during the fire (typically I've got the camera rolling in the other direction towards the bed! ). Anyway, in that video I linked to there is one part where the guy asks what the family is doing and they pan up to the bedroom from down below and you can see me filming.
