The heck with next year -- we're still working on this year! A wind storm (perhaps helped by some local kids) knocked down a handful of the candy canes. My dad made some reinforcements yesterday that I hope to install tonight or tomorrow. Our inflatable Frosty (now three years old) finally bit the dust yesterday. The fans still work great, but I think his seams are just letting too much air out -- he won't stand up, and looks rather sad lying on the ground partially inflated. We picked up a new snowman yesterday, but it's one of those wicker-looking things. (Heather isn't a big fan of inflatables -- you should have seen her face when I told her that Santa was going on the porch roof!) I'd also like to put a set of cheap speakers under the front porch (at a very low volume) for people walking by. Maybe the flashing lights won't be so confusing with some sound! Who knows what else we'll change before this year is done... We have unlimited ideas -- only limited time and money!

Yea I know you got your hands full just doing something new this year Mike and then to have other things happen you got to fix just adds to it.
Hey the speakers sound good if the other home owners don't care.

Mike, I watched all the videos on your page...spectacular...especially for your first year. How close is Chambersburg to Carlisle? That is where my son lives. If we make it up over the holidays I will see if they want to ride over and see the lights one night.

Carlisle is 30-45 minutes away. Check out Google: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...4548&z=11&om=1

When is everyone going to meet at Candy's house?

mike: we took the 3 year old out tonight for his annual christmas lights show, and came across one that had the music synched to the lights, and it was broadcast on a local radio station....it was EASILY the coolest light display I'd ever seen, and while that may have been tempered by the fact that the song was one by mannheim steamroller (of whom I'm a big fan any time of the year) the absolute look of wonder in little monkey boys face was something I wish you could have seen.....he kept asking 'how does it work? how does it work?'

little engineer...

Congrats on the setup, it looks fantastic......something I may be into soon, and I'm not exactly the christmas lights kind of guy, but that was something unbelievable, as it yours....now I can show nate YOUR site and let him goggle over that.

thanks,

v

Valis, be sure to check out www.planetchristmas.com if you're thinking of taking it on yourself. It's a lot of fun and very rewarding to watch the kids enjoy it.

I think it depends a lot on the area -- you don't see them much in big cities, obviously (although sometimes on the porch of an apartment!)... but you do see a lot of them in rural areas like Chambersburg, PA. I'm thinking maybe 1 in 10 houses around us have some holiday lights. Heather thinks it might even be more than that. We'll have to do a formal survey for you. I guess it's not as popular in the UK?
