Too many drivers are distracted and don't keep pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists in mind AT ALL TIMES, as they should. | One doesn't have to know another to have well wishes for them Thank you. Quote:

I replaced the derailluer and the cable last night. The insurance adjuster will be getting in touch with me today about damage costs. Oh, and my new crank gets in today!

#33 | I went out on Saturday for a ride to the Veloway here and rode just over 50 miles in 3.5 hours. At the end of the ride, I went to Frankenbike and picked up some Sidi Ergo 1 shoes and Wellgo SPD pedals to put on the new Shimano 105 53T crank I bought (there was no 56T ). (If I told you how much I got them for, you'd probably try and kill me for them )
I loved the ride but unfortunately, in my excitement, I forgot sunblock and so there is now developing a kickass farmers tan. | | Distinguished Member with 4,566 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Austin, TX Experience: In what? ;) |

#34 | Well, I stripped the Shimano 105 in about 4 minutes so I ordered an SRAM 53T and bottom bracket. I also put the replacement for Gator skin's on, a tire called Armadillo's.
My tan is looking real good
Saturday I'm headed out for a 70 mile ride. | | Distinguished Member with 4,566 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Austin, TX Experience: In what? ;) |

#36 | I just matched my fundraising goal and it is definitely due to the generous contributions to the TSG members. Thank you so very much. I promise to not disappoint by coming in last. 1st would be nice, but this is my first go-round.
The woman I'm dating bought me a speedometer as a surprise gift and I've been trying to average about 18 or 19mph but it is hard as I'm only doing about 13mph right now. But that is up and down hill country.
I had another crash yesterday afternoon out training on the hills and my left arm went through the rear window of a station wagon that pushed me to the curb then cut me off and slammed on their brakes. The bike is okay, but I got pretty cut up. I will be back out riding today though, as there is no rest for the hardcore. I will go until I collapse, that is my daily goal.
Edit: not for the squeamish. If you'd like to see the aftermath, click on the link: Tis just a flesh wound!

I've done it a few times, but only for the short 12 mile ride home from work... with a serious tailwind. I've always thought that a 15mph average was pretty respectable.

#38 | I need to get the speedo to register mph as right now I'm converting it from kph. I did a ride on some absolutely insane hills and I'll be doing it again tonight. Overall, I did about 25-30 miles of hills over 2 hours last night. Tonight I'll be getting some carbs before another hill ride and then going to volunteer at a bike shop.
The driver of the car was okay, but very nervous and scared. I'm healing up pretty good though. | | Distinguished Member with 22,312 posts. | | Join Date: Jul 2003 Location: cornfields of Ohio Experience: Im gonna take my computer |

#40 | If you'd like to donate, don't let me hitting my goal stop you I get none of this money and it is ALL for a good cause.
Ashely, brighter clothes would not have mattered. I was in the guys mirror and could see him. He said he heard me yelling at him but didn't know what to do or where to go.
I just looked at my speedo and it says I've ridden as of last night, 65 miles in 3hrs and 45 minutes, and that includes some incredibly SLOW hill climbs. I'm going to reset it for my ride tonight and see how I do. Staying off bigger/steeper hills, I can manage 18mph for a few miles and flat for a long, long time. I'm doing an 80 mile ride on Sunday after I rest up and get unsore. I'll see my average speed them. | | Distinguished Member with 4,566 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Austin, TX Experience: In what? ;) |

#41 | 1 week after getting my speedo I've ridden just over 2 metric centuries (200 kilometers/120 miles). For the first one I averaged a speed of 12mph, which, when riding through Texas Hill Country, isn't bad. For the second, I averaged 13.2 mph. Still riding through hill country as that is where I live. Stop lights are a killer though....
I did do a 22 mile ride and averaged 15-16mph for the whole ride, so that was pretty good. It really wasn't too many hills, just a smooth downhill and then uphill pretty much the whole way. | | Administrator with 6,763 posts. | | Join Date: Mar 2004 Location: Somewhere back in the Mountain Experience: better than my sister |

#43 | I did a 10 mile ride this morning as my commute to work. Took me 31 minutes with an elevation increase of 400ft over the last 3 miles and there WAS a headwind. Holy crap! I was soaked with sweat, but man, what a way to wake up!
Was almost sideswiped by a guy in an F150 who felt like cutting off and making a sharp right hand turn past a cyclist traveling at 24mph on a 25mph road. Where's that spiked glove.... | | Distinguished Member with 4,566 posts. | | Join Date: Aug 2005 Location: Austin, TX Experience: In what? ;) |

#44 | 16 days and a wake up until my ride. I leave Austin at 4am on Saturday morning, May 17th. I'll be back on Sunday around 8pm or so I think.
I took a ride out to the country last weekend and was averaging about 18-20mph for most of it. Was going for a century (100 miles) but a flat cut my ride short. | THIS THREAD HAS EXPIRED.
